You're telling me I could have gone 4x on my 36H Sturmey Archer drum brake hubs? Would have been cool but I think a 0.2mm spoke head clearance is pushing it a bit.
I kind of want to do a straight pull or 2x one day on a rim and hub combo that would make sense on but so far I like building extra strong 36H commuter/touring hubs.

Just catching this thread, but based on the photo in the first post, the thread title should have included "Warning, may induce vomiting"......
But yeah, happens all the time, you follow a "Schwinn Voyageur" link, and it's some Wal-bike made from old beer cans. And so on.

...when your mates start talking about their dream bikes and all you can think about is bringing an unloved classic marque back to its former glory.
...when the reliability of modern components just sounds boring.

Speaking of "resin set" there's this bad boy near me https://baltimore.craigslist.org/bik...194550827.html
Or this for the more "steel inclined" https://baltimore.craigslist.org/bik...162469997.html
Both are way too big for me. The carbon Allez has been on the CL for over a month I think. Pretty sure the price started at $600 and is now at $475, They both look like they are in good shape!

. . . . . . . when you see the article for the new 13-speed Campagnolo, and realize you weren't even sure they'd gone beyond 10-speed yet.
. . . . . . . when any mention of "10-speed" only means double chainwheel, 5-speed freewheel, and downtube friction shifters in your mind. I'm not sure what to call those overly wide freehubs with 10 cogs.

Ben, I got a kick out of this post. I actually have a couple of those bowls and lids. Not close to a set, just a couple of bowls/lids. I bought a house in an online auction almost 5 years ago, Dec. 17, 2015. Quit a few things were left in the house, especially kitchenware, and they were among the the things I kept. The house and property needed a lot of work and things replaced, but the initial cost was quite low. It has been my home since May 12, 2016. I now have a small bedroom setup as my bike workshop.

... when you spend hours hand filing, sanding and polishing a Cinelli stem you bought from a fellow BF'er to match that complimentary 26.4mm clamp area drop bar you've had in your bin for months ... and you don't even have a bike to put 'em on ... yet!

Yes, interesting that there are collectors that are like us...will to pay exorbitant prices for everyday items....I found that Tupperware to be crazy and I am sure that it did not sell for that prize but the ask was insane.
Keep the gold lines on your pieces and you can buy another Colnago!
Best, Ben

...when you stop random strangers on the street to tell them how cool their bike is, and if they take care of it they can pass it on to their grandchildren.
Yesterday I was picking up trash on the Humboldt Bay Trail when an older woman rode up on a gorgeous little cranberry Stumpie with blue lettering. I tried talking to her about it, but she clearly wasn't interested, and left as soon as she politely could. Don't think I didn't notice the bike was my size.

Seeing Raleigh, Motobecane, Schwinn and other grand marques used on bikes that have no connection to the ones we all recognize as legit - and getting upset about it.

Spending way too much time/concentration trying to decipher out of focus headbadges whenever you see them in a movie (and then getting mad when the supposed protagonist throws a classic to the ground as if it's nothing - and doesn't even lock it up in public???) that you miss the key plot points of the movie (but who cares, the ******* supposed protagonist is treating the real star of the show like crap?).
