Just chasing/racing someone on a small section doesn't tell you anything, anyway. If you want to know how you stack up against someone you need to do a long ride with them. That's how you learn about another rider, by riding with them for miles and miles. I'm sure a guy of your size would wilt on a long, hot climbing ride even though you might be able to put out some watts for a short burst.
Just keep having fun your way, though. Whatever floats your boat.

Or better yet, go on a ride in which all of the other participants understand that it's a competition -- which is called a 'bike race.' 'Course, Larry would have to get a helmet and a rear brake, 'cause they don't let just any yahoo into a race...And then when he gets dropped by the Cat 5 peloton, he might stop posting so many Walter Mitty fantasy stories.

I'm surprised that people are still replying to this train wreck.

Larry, be alert to any sign your disruption is no longer amusing to the groups you are seeking out. Stalking charges might be the least of the consequences. I'll bet some of those old guys could wreck you before you had a clue what was happening. Be safe and ponder staying in your own lane.

Can we have a sticky with a compilation of all these threads for entertainment?
There was some guy who had a Nintendo logo for an avatar who had some gems, too, but I can’t seem to remember his name.

So yesterday after work, I decided to put Larry's technique into practice (I left my shirt on though). I "raced" some little kids on mountain bikes, a couple girls riding along while using their phones, an old guy headed to the liquor store, four or five families out for an evening ride around the neighborhood, a lady on a beach cruiser, a kid riding with his tennis racquet strapped to his bike, and a few other random cyclists. Too easy.... It was like taking candy from a baby! I beat them all!
Seems like a hollow victory however. Maybe I should have let one or two of them win? Maybe they were intimidated by my kit and my Italian-brand-name bicycle? I don't think any of them really wanted to race.

just having fun
One girl was like "woah your back brake cable is very loose!!" and I was like "yeah I took it off 500 miles ago, check my back wheel!" shes very cute and thinks im sick, was planning on asking her out until this guy a year older than my father pulled up next to me when I was on a solo ride and introduced himself with "hi larry (he knew my name lol) im racergirl's boyfriend." so I bet he sensed I was going to make a move hahaha. he is a BEAST, rides 400 miles a week according to strava and is constantly at the front of one of the fastest rides in the area, at 57 years old!
