So originally it was either going to be a honda civic, honda hrv, subaru outback, subaru cross trek. The original plan was to spend no more than 20k. After doing research I realized that wasn’t realistic, but 25k should work.
I talked her out of the civic it’s just too small. Hondas are extremely hard to come by in my area, and the mark up is huge.
Well I stumbled on a mazda CX-5 so I took her to try that out. She loved it, but the price after all the fees and bs, was 10,000 over budget. We offered 28k cash to see if that would make a difference and she wouldn’t negotiate at all. ( I told my wife that wouldn’t work, but italians have this view of the world that is hard to explain)
Went to the honda lot next to test ride the HRV, and we quickly realized the HRV was not going to work. We’re not big on the bells and whistles but it has nothing, and to get some of the simple things the car was going to cost only a couple thousand cheaper than the cx5
She test drove a CRV and it was nice, had a lot of neat features, but was just boring. The gave us a quote and it was 2 thousand more than the CX5.
We will go look at subarus today but I think we will end up with the Mazda.
Since the car budget jumped up 10k it’s only fair that my bike budget jumps 10k right? I mean the S works tarmac is only 13k……..

Anecdotally, a local Porsche dealer recently posted a used 2year old 911 on FB that it recently bought to resell. Nothing special about the car. They were asking $20k over the original MSRP. When someone questioned that, they responded that they paid over MSRP to get it. It’s nuts. Before COVID, that same used car could be bought for $30k less than MSRP. My son’s three year old Mazda 3 is now worth more than I paid it when I bought it new.
As for the bike budget, get real. You know you’re lucky your wife is letting you get the Madone! 😜

I went to the Volvo dealer last week to check out the only V60 x-country they have (I have a thing for wagons) and they wouldn’t give a penny off. Most cars are selling before they hit the lot. Looked into an Outback and you’re basically paying MSRP and waiting for your car to show up on the lot.

It’s interesting “in these times” that even a medium-ish cold forces one to fear they have Covid and go get tested for the protection of everyone else.
and by interesting, I mean irritating

Well, wish we could wait, but it’s not suppose to get better until 2023.
As soon as the company announced the bonus money my car blew up, so we are down to one car.
My car will cost about 2000 to fix, but it’s not worth 1500. I don’t think I can trade in a broken car.
My wife just needs to decide what’s important to her. Not having a car payment or having something better than basic. She deserves more than basic but she’s also in charge of the money situation and knows what gets paid when and where. I’m a bystander.
I want her to be happy, and not to have buyer remorse.

I want her to be happy, and not to have buyer remorse, and if the cost to have what she wants is 6 thousand more, I think she should do it.
