Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I must have bad taste, as I like the stained cabinets more than the painted ones.

When they removed all the masking, etc., the fireplace did not look good and we both didn’t like it. I told her to talk to them Friday morning when they came back to finish. They had to remask and recover the whole room so they could reglaze the fireplace and respray the clear.

For the cost, we both needed to be happy. The painters were actually really good about it, and didn’t complain one bit. It’s a local contractor in a smaller town, and we have lots of common connections with the owner, so it’s just a matter of being nice and not demanding or being an arse about things. I actually have more work for them on another project.
Gotcha. By committee but the most important committee member was absent.

Liked the stained wood as well. She was wanting to lighten up the room for the next 12 years. The kitchen opens to this room.

She let's me do stuff, so occasionally she does stuff too.

The light version is INFINITELY mo better than the dark version. I used to live in an apartment, where I could do nothing about it, that had wood paneling all over the place. Hated it!! Just too dark and gloomy.

A crisp Fall day. It's amazing how much better the legs feel when the weather is reasonable.

Probably.

I might pick the painted look over the wood grain if starting fresh, but I wouldn't go to the bother of changing already existing.

It depends on how light the room is otherwise. If there are lots of south-facing windows, you can get away with darker, but if it's facing north, or not too many windows, no.

My Mother In Law lived in THE DARKEST house. It was on a narrow lot, and had a big church on one side and a taller house and a couple maple trees on the other, plus it had an add-on mud room on the front. And she kept the curtains closed. It might have been tolerable if the walls were painted a nice bright color, but back in the 70s when it was all the rage, she got that 'wood panelling' crap, so the place was like a cave.

At our last house, we spent a fortune in 2005 replacing all of our trim and doors with solid oak. One of the first things the new owners did, was paint everything white. Considering that all things are cyclical, that painted oak trim and painted solid oak doors will be trash down the road.

I do not understand the stylistic swings in home decoration these days. I have seen a number of houses, in my search for a place to retire, where I was convinced the pictures were shot in black and white, until I noticed some color outside the windows.

I thought I had fully recovered from my booster, so I went for a ride.

I was wrong.

I think I might skip the booster should I become eligible, unless I'm deemed immunocompromised at some point.

It’s reasonable to postpone for a bit. I suspect eventually it will be recommended for all. Stay tuned.

What's the difference between the booster and the originals?
