Why is so much clothing dark colored.

I prefer either long sleeves or short sleeves w/sun sleeves, too. I don't like rubbing sun screen in to my arm hair, so I'll often skip it, and if it does get done, it can wear off during long rides, so sleeves have been much more effective for me.

clothing made for MTB/off road cycling is definitely more likely to favor muted, darker colors.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing colors for cycling....Wear whatever you want.

I can't stand pink and I look even worse in orange than I do yellow, and that's saying something.
Most really hi-viz maintenance stuff on the road seems to use some combination of those three colors rather than just one.

This may be a dumb question but it seems like a lot of exercise clothing including bicycle gear is dark or black in color. I find this more true for pants. Has anyone heard a reason for this? I would think bright, and/or safety colors would be cooler and, well, safer. Just wondering.

I'm embarrassed to say how old I was before I figured out no one can see grease stains on black socks.

Yep. I’ve mucked up pairs of my favorite checkered flag socks. The whites have even gotten dulled from wet road grime.

I can only imagine all the inadequacies you must suffer from that would make you judge and condemn people you've never met based on their clothing and bike choices. Although you're at a significant disadvantage, hopefully you'll one day win the battle with your deficiencies. Keep fighting!
That's all there is to it, a mistake, everyone makes mistakes. The freedom of choice, yes. I am pro-choice!! However some of our choices might make it more difficult for others. In this case, motorists. We hate motorists so much and probably including dogs when there are choices that will make them nicer to us.
Ever since I started putting on corny high vis patterns, motorists have been giving me a lot more room. They probably think I'm one of those inexperienced riders who can turn into a wrecking ball any moment so they give me a wide berth. Works for me!

When the rider executes erratic riding behavior, they will at least have immediate emergency care on-site & be able to increase their chances in retaining the motorist for questioning.
