@2001 Litespeed Ultimate rear tire
A friend just got a free Ultimate in pristine shape sans rubber from around 2001 and with the current trend in larger tires was asking how big can he go. Any owners out there have any insight?

Best he gets with you or other local cyclists to test fit a few wheel/tire combinations.

Wish those older bikes took larger tires. I have a 2001 Litespeed Arenberg and am running a 25 on the rear though it rubs when climbing out of the saddle. Measuring won’t give you the answer because it doesn’t take flex into account.

I have a 1999 Tuscany and it will take a 25 no problem. Never tried a 28 but it looks like it would work.

Not addressing the OP, but I have a 96 classic that takes a 28mm tire no problem. Disclaimer: the fork is not original, it is a new-ish Columbus Minimal. But both front and rear tires fit without any undue hassle. When they wear out, I'm going to try a 30.
