I’ll be in Colorado for a week towards the middle of the month. I’m taking my bike and hoping to get time to ride Cottonwood Pass. But with rafting and Secret Stash pizza I may not get much time to ride otherwise. I have another eye surgery scheduled when I return, so recovery will likely wipe out the rest of the month. I’m going to aim for 400 miles.

No goal milage wise other than to get some longer rides in and hopefully more than one century but fires season is here and air quality will be a factor.
08/01 -80.05 miles a little smoky.

Goal: 238 miles, including rides of 30+, 35+, and 40+. Tough goals because of a trip to Ottawa in the middle of the month. If I get the distance rides in, I'm pretty sure I'll surpass the total miles for August goal.

August Goal: 300 miles

Went a bit further into the marsh near the end of my ride to look at the rising full moon, and came across a bunch of guys fishing. While I was there one of the guys landed this 29-inch striped bass.
I also had a headlight issue. It was getting dark as I was coming up on a couple walking on the wrong side of the path. I was preparing to ring my bell and I expected I would have to pass on the right. Then I realized they had an unleashed dog with them, and then I saw a cyclist approaching from the other direction. I slowed way down, but as the other cyclist passed the walkers he almost didn't see the dog. As he came up to me he said my light was too bright and he had been blinded. I apologized, and showed him my light was pointed down. I said I was sorry again, and that I understood because it happens to me all the time too.
Usually when another cyclist or scooter is approaching me in the dark I angle the light to the side, but honestly no one has ever done the same for me. This time I didn't see the oncoming cyclist until the last minute and I didn't react quickly enough. My headlight (a Cygolite Metro) was actually on low power at the time.
The scooters are usually the worst, along with the electric unicycle guys that are often lit up like an airplane on approach. Later in my ride tonight I passed another cyclist and his light was so bright the reflection in my rear view mirror was blinding me.
Not sure what to do. When I got home I measured and found my headlight is pointed at a spot about 12 feet in front of my front wheel. I could angle it down more, but most of the path is not lit and if the light is pointed too short I would easily out-ride it. I guess the Cygolite doesn't have very good cutoff. I stood in front of my bike and it is very bright - not pleasant for anyone coming the other way. Which I kind of knew, that's why I move it to the side.
Maybe when the time comes to replace this light I can find one with better cutoff, but in the meantime I think I just have to do a better job of redirecting the light away from whoever is approaching.

DIdn't set a goal for July but using it as a baseline at 228.1. I missed a part of a week and did only one long weekend ride. I've been extending the daily goal by a mile each week, so I should be up to 16 miles per day by the end of August.

Replaced my chain today after about 1700 miles on the old one. I thought new chains were thoroughly lubed, but I was surprised how noisy the new one was. Going to oil it and see if it gets better.
