Changing the chainring size on my SRAM setup to the 48/35 from the 46/33 the bike came with as I like the gear ratio's better with the cassettes I run.

It's a mix of totally absurd and probably pretty nice. Hangers that are too weak and bend too easily are pretty worthless.

I see that you are running what appears to be a Prestacycle Uniblock cassette. Sweet! (I have one too.) But please check on the lock ring, because it does not have a crush washer. Mine worked itself loose on a ride and it almost caused a crash.

Purchased a set of Continental Gatorskin 700x25c tubulars, valve extenders and set of brake cables. Earlier this year a buddy picked up a 2010 Guru Magis carbon TT/Tri road bike at a garage sale, $250. SRAM components, Zipp303 wheelset, Fiizi:k saddle. He pulled the old tires off and after seeing all the layers of crusted glue on the rims, decided "no thank you", and gave the bike to me for free. I'm not a carbon/tubular/TT/lightweight rider type at all, but I took it just the same. I started road cycling in junior high in 1980, and mountain biking in high school. In all that time I never worked on or road sew-ups/tubulars, so this was my first interaction with non-clinchers. I let the bike sit in the garage for 6 months; out of place amongst my paddock of steel-framed road bikes, vintage Peugeot rescues and MTB/Cross frankenbikes. I finally decided to dig into this super-lightweight carbon tubular anomoly this month. Other than a good clean up and adjustment, replacement of the brake cables/housing, putting on some newish/used bar tape I had, the main event was dealing with the wheels. After 4-5 hours of alternately softening the old glue with carburetor cleaner (works well BTW, no harm to the wheels), and methodically going at it with a pick tool, I ended up with a nice clean set of carbon wheels. I patiently adhered to the detailed instructions and multi-day process for pre-streching the tires on the rims, applying the Velox Jantex 14 Carbon Tubular Tape, and finally seating and inflating the tires. Damn, this bike really rides nicely! I'm not going to use the bike for anything serious, but I'm going to hang on to it and I'll roll it out periodically. I just hope to hell I don't get a puncture on the road!

I need to go to more garage sales! $250 for a carbon TT bike is a great deal. Even if you spent a bit extra for clincher wheels and went with standard drop shifters, this would still be a nice setup for not much money!

Aside from a new bike (posted elsewhere in the road cycling section of BF), bought an underseat taillight on amazon and I got to say that I am surprised! Mounts right on the saddle rails and it's bright enough.

Feeling kind of wired here. At least in terms of stocking up on longer-than-average shift cables, after the recent traumas of working on bikes that needed the longer ones.

Last week, it was two 100-count boxes of 2.3 m (90") Jagwires on a good eBay deal:



Then today, another 50 x 3.22m (130") cables from a different eBay seller, for those times that 90" just won't, er, cut it (standard 2m / 78" cable shown alongside for comparison):



I think I may now be ready for an impending onslaught of 3-seat tallbike cruisers desperately seeking rear shift cables.
