Soma has 27" Pasela's on sale for about 9 bucks, 1-1/4 & 1-1/8. And a bunch of other stuff.

1-1/8 seems to be a bit more than the 1-1/4 but still a good price. https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/461...gory=823#attr=

Wow -- thanks for that. Just bought 4. Refurbed my 1977 Nishiki Olympic recently after decades of not riding, and got recommendations for Panaracers as good tires for my purposes, but I went low-cost to see how the bike felt after all these years. The Kendas on the bike now were about $10 as I recall, and the "normal" price for the Paselas always seemed to be in the $27-30 ballpark. Now I can have REAL tires;-)

Note that they charge +10.00 for shipping wire bead tires and other stuff that takes a large box, on top of regular shipping, and on top of free shipping if you spend > $100.
They charge the extra $10 at the time of shipping, so it doesn't show up when you place your order. Read their shipping information carefully.

Even with the extra charges, the cost is around $15 ea. Still a good deal at that price (I assume, since I haven't ridden on them yet).

Thanks for the link. Ordered two for future use. $33.36 total. I'm curious where they are located.

They've taken the unusual (for the bicycle industry) tack of letting consumers order directly from their catalogue, which is why the strange shipping charge method is there...it's pretty standard in supply companies to charge you for the shipping AFTER it's done, so you are literally only paying what it cost, rather than skimming any excess.

You got to know how to fold 'em...

I just took a 27"wire bead tire and folded it. It would fit into an 11" square box. It is more effort and takes some finesse to fold it and then tape, zip tie or twist tie the tire doesn't spring back to it's original shape while you are either packing or unpacking the box. Perhaps this is the reason for the $10 charge.
Folding a wire bead tire is the same as folding a bandsaw blade.
I just had another thought. Soma seems knowledgeable, perhaps they could have been getting complaints about folded tires and just figured it would easier and generate less issues if they shipped them full sized. The customer is always right. Right?

I received Kenda wire-beads that were folded as described (via Amazon purchase), and it works well for shipping them, but I suspect that the bandsaw-blade folding tends to make some sidewall distortions. Folding two equal-length loops over each other where they are connected by a flexible web probably has some sort of technical topological description of which I'm unaware, but I'd bet that the rubber material has to deform significantly to compensate for the fold-over of the steel loops. The tires I received this way certainly had some serious sidewall deflections, although hanging the tires up for a week or so helped relieve the misshapen condition to some extent. It probably doesn't much matter for the use case, but the distortions seem to make it harder to get the tires mounted up straight.

Thanks for the heads up. I picked up some tires for a couple bikes that were in need.

I've had this on Kenda gum wall tires too. But the Pasela skin wall tires I've bought don't seem to have this issue despite being folded the same way during shipping. IMHO, I don't think the Kenda tires are as good overall as the Pasela.

I too appreciate the PSA. I bought 2 of their S-Ride 8 spd chains for $5.00 each. Looks like the sale price is now $12. Also looks like I grabbed the same lights as kansascity . They were crazy cheap.
Anyone have experience with these S-Ride chains? I’m not expecting much but for $5, had to give them a try.

I placed my order over a week ago. Email confirming order then nada.
‘I called, nice person called back, they were flooded with orders it was stated.
‘so there is demand for parts.
‘still no notice of shipment yet. They stated a week lately to process from order, now progressing to two.

My order got shipped some days after placing it. I may have been in the "early" glut of orders for Panaracers, but they did finally send some sort of acknowledgement, or maybe it was a shipping notification, and the box arrived a few days later. I had never purchased anything from them previously, so no history to compare.

I placed my order on the 28th and received the tires on the 2nd. But then they're only a state and a half from me.
