Shifter mount
Anyone used one of these shifter mounts on a frame without downtube shifter brazeons?
if so, positives, negatives.
I’m wanting to put indexing shifters , that I have, on a frame without mounts.
thanks

...this. They really do not look C&V and, if I found a single-side band that I knew the shifter would fit, I'd probably abandon it.

I have to find a pic, but at some point, I tapped a Huret or other band clamp for M5 bolts and attached modern cable stops to it for index shifting. Here's another BF-er who did something similar: https://www.bikeforums.net/22772568-post19.html

There was a guy on Ebay selling a clamp with braze on bosses welded to it. Might look better.

I should have been more specific with what i am trying to accomplish. I'm wanting to use the Shimano 105 index downtube shifters that I have. If could modify a vintage shifter mount , that would be preferable. But, the one that I dig up did not look like it would work.
Anyone modified a vintage mount that worked with more modern downtube index shifters?
Thanks

Modifying an old shifter mount is hard because a lot of them didn't really have asquare base like the shipmano shifters rely on.
At one time back when Shipmano SIS was a new thing you could actually order the shifters as clamp ons and they came with nicely chaped bases/backing plates to fit over the clamp.

I used a current Sunrace SLR30 28.6 mm DT mount and Shimano SL-400 index rear shifter and it works perfectly. ($13 at AMZ) The Sunrace friction FD shifting worked fine on this beater, so I didn't change it.

I had an old campy that had a rusted leverstop. I cut the stop off and dremeled the friction area down so the adjustable stop could be used.

Levers would work justly on this as well.

I used one of these on a Raleigh Technium 420 to move the shifters from the stem to the downtube that did not have braze-ons. The one I bought was black and branded Origin8. Stripped the finish to make it polished aluminum. Some here worry about it moving on the tube and screwing up cable tension. I sold the bike before I could evaluate how well it worked long term.

The problem solver or Origen 8 makes the levers sit pretty wide. I prefer the Huret and I never had to tap new threads.

Sunrace shifters slr30 7s indexed
If you are looking to buy something, I support the choice for Sunrace shifters that was already mentioned. The clamp fits nicely with the C&V theme.

I have a defective Sunrace shifter and will mount my shifters to the clamp as you did here. Thank you.

I had this come up recently and searched unsuccessfully for a suitable set of Shimano 600 clamp-on indexed shifters. I finally gave up and took the clamp off a set of Suntour shifters, which worked fine, as long as you don't mind looking down at competing brand names.
