I dunno if this has been mentioned, but racks have weight limits. If anywhere close to that limit, the payload should be weighed. My front and rear racks are each rated for 40 lbs. Those limits are not only for the rack structure, but also based on the tiny bolts that support them at the frame. ...
Thorn rates their heavy duty expedition rear rack at 40kg if using M5 bolts, but 60kg if using M6 bolts. I pasted this from their website for that rack:

Max load when used on surfaced roads:- When fitted with 6mm screws = 60Kg…when fitted with 5mm screws = 40kg. These figures should be halved when being used on South American Ripio.
.Some of the European rack companies have recently downgraded their weight ratings due to rules pertaining to child seats, the racks are now rated for a lower weight than the weight rating necessary to use a child seat. My Tubus Logo was rated at 40kg, my Racktime Addit rack on a different bike was rated at 30kg, but both of these racks are now sold with lower weight ratings for that reason.
