SRAM PG 1070 cassette 10 speed

Installing the above cassette. Am puzzled that the only way it will stack correctly is to double the spacers between the spider and the next ring. I did not receive any additional spacers in the box. Seems kind of funky to have to place 2 spacers together and leaves me without a spacer-though I have an extra from an old cassette. Never had this issue before with SRAM, but never used this particular cassette.

I am puzzled about your terminology - spider and ring. Would it be possible that you're installing the cassette on an 11 speed wheel/hub? If so, the extra spacer is used to compensate for the width difference between 10 and 11 speed free hubs.

No it is a 10 speed cassette I’m installing on a 10 speed bike.
The spider is the first three cogs which are fixed. The remaining cogs(rings) are individual with spacers in between. I-in fact-received no extra spacers. I f I stack the spider(fish 3 cog unit), then a spacer, the next cog will sit flat up against the small cog in the spider—which of course won’t work.

Here's an exploded diagram of the cassette. Hope it helps. From what you post something is funky. I'd contact your source.

Try YouTube, I saw a few installation vids there, maybe you can get your answer there.

Thanka for the reply.
Yeah that’s the way it SHOULD look. Unfortunately the spider I was sent is NOT the same one pictured. It does not have a raised section in the middle. I guess I need to contact the company. I have a suspicion it was not entirely new.

Able to post pictures of your cassette? Where did you buy it? Never seen this issue and I’ve installed lots of these cassettes.

Now that you mention it, I think my PG1070 cassette also required two spacers between the large 3-cog cluster and the next cog. I noticed while checking my hub bearings and freehub body and thought it was odd. I'm not 100% sure though and I'm not eager to take it apart to confirm (sorry). You might just need to source an additional spacer and that'd be the end of it.

Bought it from WesternBikeworks. Actually I have mounted it on my bike. With the 2 spacers, it seems fine, but makes me a little nervous.

Is this WesternBikeWorks an authorized SRAM dealer? If so reach out to them and have them file a warranty or reach out to SRAM on your behalf. If they can't do that, silly but OK but I would reach out to SRAM direct and see what they say. That sounds like an odd one and not normal.

Thanks I’ve actually notified both. We’ll see what they say.

Western Bike Works - in my fairly extensive experience - is a great shop and it would be astonishing for me if they sold a counterfeit part or if they fail to stand by a defective product. I'll be interested in seeing what happens.

I have had an Sram cassette with the two spacers. IIRC, it was an 11 speed 11-36, 1130 model. Western Bike Works is one of my go to suppliers. IME, very good communication and support.
