Timing for 2025 Spring Europe ride
Hi everyone. My wife and I are planning to ride Amsterdam to Budapest in the European Spring of 2025, and would love some advice around timing. It looks like April this year has been quite cold in Amsterdam. We can start any time, and ideally want to be back in Amsterdam prior to the main European summer holidays commencing. If we start mid April, with rest days and sightseeing we would arrive Budapest start of the last week in May. Of course we can start later and finish maybe mid June. Any thoughts around timing? Cold weather is fine, last Octover we were starting in 1 to 2 degrees C in northern South Korea, not ideal but ............ The draft plan is below.
Cheers

This is my go to web site for researching average weather conditions for an area I may visit.

You can pick different locations, preferably cities with a major airport because airports have very good weather history to base the averages on. Picking several locations along the route can give you a pretty complete picture of what you would encounter at different times.
It of course is based on averages so it is unlikely to be spot on, but no forecast will be very accurate a year in advance.
The daily probability of precip considers less than 1mm of precip to be a dry day, thus you may briefly wear a rain jacket more often than the averages would suggest.

April is early, in northern Europe, May can be either wonderful or rainy. Some years, the last two weeks of May have been wonderful, other years not so much.
I use wundergrounds history to check on previous years. However, for the last few years the weather has been more unpredictable than ever in Europe, so come prepared.
Campsites open typically around easter or middle of april (ish) so do some homework to be sure the campsites are open that early.
Apart from that, have a wonderful tour!

Enjoy your trip! If you are planning a trip in Bulgaria, don't forget to get a vignette https://bulgariavignette.eu. It's essential for driving on highways and helps fund the maintenance of the road system. This small sticker is your ticket to a hassle-free road trip across the country.

I would be more inclined to go with May as April can be fairly cold, wet and miserable it was this year, I have also had snow in May before in Germany which kept me there for a few days.

This last week has been unusually hot in Northern Europe. I’m in Greece but it’s been hotter back home in Sweden!
