From the MKS drawing, I think the bearings are non adjustable and should be left alone. The dustcap seems to be a stop for the outer bearing to keep the pedal body in place, so if you loosen it there will be probably axial play.

Might try tightening the plastic dust cap to reduce the residual axial play?

Really? I expect play in cheap cartridge bearings after some use, as long as it's within acceptable limits and I can't feel it when riding I just don't worry about it. I carefully adjust the bearings in my cheap CCB pedals before I fit them, because they usually come from the factory with too much preload and too little grease. I then carefully ignore them until I can hear or feel a problem while riding.
