Rob Roberson retrospective party at Joe Bell's
Joe Bell threw a party for his old friend, framebuilder Rob Roberson.
People brought their Roberson-built bikes, including customs he built under his own name, and Masi and other frames he made as an employee, going back to the '70s
Radavist wrote it up, with pics, fun!

Great read, thanks for posting! I wonder if he built my mystery Masi, no serial # but looks like an early 80’s model. On our recent SoCal Tour we got to participate in the Brian Baylis memorial ride and it was pretty neat to see the friendly and active, experienced (not vintage) cycling community in San Diego, as well as the community in LA. I met several guys, all friendly and accommodating, and many I’m sure, big guns in American cycling. At one point, we’re sitting around regrouping on the outskirts of Coronado, and one guy is admiring another guy's beautiful old bike and notices the Speedplay pedals on it. He wasn’t familiar with the brand and asks some questions and then says “Do you like them?” . The guy answers “yes I like them a lot, but I’m biased because I designed them”. That would be the Richard Byrne mentioned in the article.

Thanks for alerting us to this builder. Can you tell us more about these tools? Also Roberson made?

I got a chance to have a quick meal with Rob on one of the first Pre- Bayis rides . One hell of a swell guy and a true Gentlemen . His frames are pretty amazing .
