Mavic SSC Cosmic Carbon CX01
Hey all, need some quick opinions. I have an opportunity to purchase a set of Mavic SSC Cosmic Carbons with the aero CX01 spokes for about $550. No crashes, less than 1000 miles on them. Really great condition. Mavic carbon hubs, new cassette. Gonna be used on a dedicated TT bike for actual race day. Any thoughts? Thank you!

According to this road.cc review the Mavic SSC Cosmic Carbon has an internal width of 19 mm.
Review: Mavic Cosmic Carbon 40 wheels | road.cc
You said for TT so aerodynamic concerns so definitely 25 mm tires or less; it depends if you are OK with this.

And for $550, I’d hold out for another $150 to get a new wheelset with modern dimensions.
Yeah, the Cosmic Carbone look cool still (IMO), but since we’re going for TT race wheels and not style, the priority is on performance, and the Mavics don’t deliver competitive gains by modern standards because they’re too narrow in and out.
But, if $550 is what you’ve got and the cassette is needed, you can probably pick up some sailing gains here and there with those, so you’d probably not be going backwards performance-wise.

When did they stop making those wheels? They have to be pretty old.

Yeah, that's a concern. The seller is the original purchaser. He has the original paperwork. He states that they have less than 1000 km on them, no crashes, mostly on a trainer. They look very nice. But the wheels have to be at least 10 years old, likely older. They also have a funky strip thingy that you can attach to the outer wheel that supposedly makes them more aero. I'm sure their nice. But for $550, I can put the money toward something else. I need a new set for TT purposes. So, I'm looking at FLOs and even some of the higher end SuperTeam wheels. I see a set of "saw tooth" SuperTeams that are wide, fairly aero, and have pretty good reviews. I have a set of ST's that I train with and they're actually quite good. Stiff and the hub rolls as well has the Campy hubs on a set of Zondas that I have. I'm also considering a set of 9Aeros, based upon that guy "Hambini's" recommendation.

I also have the precursor of the Cosmic SSC, the Cosmic Carbone from1999
The older hubs might not be carbon but are very durable and reliable.
