Shimano Rapidfire levers: mount near stem on Ergotec Toulouse Bars?

I have Ergotec Toulouse handlebars with a 15 mm rise and 61° back sweep (please see the first picture). The diameter is 22.2mm. I would like to mount Shimano Alivio Rapidfire shifters close to the stem (please see the second picture. It only shows the idea;

the dimensions are completely different!). Will the levers fit? Maybe with some reaming?

They might fit there assuming that go around the bends OK but that is a terrible place to mount them. So far from where your hands would be normally on those bars.

The reason for that second picture is someone who decided to run a mountain bike rear derailleur on a road bike and either was old or didn't want to use one of the many excellent shifter or converters so they can make it all work without flat bar shifters.

Thanks, Veganbikes! I'll have to think about this.
