Shimano Chain on SRAM NX drivetrain?

Hi guys, picked up a used Trek Remedy 8 2017 and wanted to buy a spare chain. I noticed that the chain on there was a Shimano and not SRAM, read some stuff about it better if everything matches but don't know if that's BS. Is this a problem? And what's a high quality chain I should be looking to buy as a spare? Thanks so much!

Use any chain, any brand. Well, don't buy the counterfeits, but all the genuine name brands are good. KMC makes chains at lower prices, and they've proven to be very good.

I mean SRAM does their FlatTop chains but generally for 11 speed stuff everything is cross compatible. So as long as you buy from an authorized dealer a chain from say Shimano, SRAM, KMC or Wippermann you will be fine.

Any authentic 11 speed chain from Shimano, SRAM, KMC or Wippermann will work well. As the bike is new to you I assume you measured the chain for stretch and suggest it be replaced before it nears 0.75 percent stretch so as to avoid wearing out the cogs on the cassette prematurely. Once the chain stretch exceeds 1.0 percent the cassette must be replaced along with a new chain.
