I usually ride the 25km to the cemetery to "check in on things" with my parents&grand parents.
Today I decided to drive there with my BMX on the rack (no way I could ride it 25kms x2).
I discovered a lot of interesting sections that were respectfully dedicated to the brave young people who fought for our Rights and Freedoms.
I was very moved and plan on doing this ride again. I'm sure there will be lots more to discover.........

This week I've been getting back on the bike after not riding since September. We have moved to a very nice neighborhood built around a now-failed golf course, but at least the streets are quiet and there are some good rolling hills to put me back in shape. I timed the rotation to have this bike for Sunday, and I left it in the 44x17 fixed-gear mode. I am still old, weak, and slow, but less so than I was when I started Tuesday, and I plan on getting better.

Nice bike!
must feel good getting back on.
I haven’t been on a bike in almost a year.
Dr says I should be able to ride in 8 weeks or so!

I got in 11.7 miles this morning as I slowly cycle myself back into shape. Julius the Mercian Vincitore fixed-gear was wonderful as usual. I avoided the pit bull on Clem Road only to have two encounters with lap dogs in the old Harris Mill Village. Fortunately, my response to them was firm but amused and patient - which is good because in both cases their elderly owners emerged to control their dogs, and both thanked me for being nice about it - which I thought was nice of them
Happy Father's Day, y'all!

Rode up to check out I-70 bridge construction at Rocheport. (Bike still has 5-speed left over from occasional winter indoor trainer workouts but this was strictly 42/17).

There is a newly repaved road very close to my house. It's exactly 1 mile long and has only one stop light. That stop light is perfectly located at the halfway mark. It's great for laps, either the 1-mile stretch, or the smaller half mile lengths. Sunday mornings are great for a ride there, because the auto traffic is very light. I got in a nice 70-minute ride yesterday morning.

This past Sunday I redid Saturday’s hilly ride, but skipped the muddy low part at the end. We have had a lot of rain and flood damage to trails. Kudos to city staff for quickly clearing this tree that ended up across a low water crossing of Grindstone Creek. Last one shows the section they had to cut out and move off the trail.

Sunday morning's route was my usual 15-mile jaunt aboard my favorite fixed-gear - but I was very much filled with gratitude to my Creator for a lovely morning and the chance to go out and ride a lovely bike through some beautiful scenery. It was early enough that I got to see a fox, hear a hawk, and on the way home watch a snowy egret fishing in a pond. The last half of the ride I was just grinning non-stop, and I hope everyone else had an awesome day to be grateful for as well!

My longest fixed ride to date and, fortuitously, on a Sunday, so I can post it here without appearing to brag.
Years ago, I used to do regular 100+ mile days on a geared bike, or on tandem. These days, my Pearson Touche fixed is the bike I use most often, and a typical "long" ride is somewhere between 30 and 50 miles.
74 miles including a couple of "stand up, grunt and zig zag" hills, and a couple of short sections of rough farm track. Most of it was on roads, though.
Quite an achievement to find 1,500 feet of climbing when I live in Lincolnshire! Then again, my app once recorded 200 feet of climbing on a particularly choppy day's sailing.

Went for my bi-weekly visit to check in on things.
Decided to bring my new ride (in the trunk). Didn't cover much ground as I'm still too new to it

Schedules meant that instead of an early morning road ride I wound up doing a mix of gravel paths and single-track at Greenwood's Grace Street Park. It gave me a chance to finally test my '73 Raleigh Competition with the 35mm cyclocross tires and the fixed/free double-dingle drive on single-track. Considering that originally I built this bike to ride these trails in this park so that I could accompany my son when he was training for his cross country team, it seemed fitting to ride it here.
I put the chain on the 42x22 freewheel side, maybe a 52-in or so gear, and set out. Since I haven't really ridden single-track since oh, 2008 or so, I took it easy and went slowly. The gentler trails were easy, the really gnarly skinny root-filled single-track stuff on the perimeter of the park were almost manageable, and I had a blast. Not too many miles, slower than Christmas, but tremendous fun.
I had felt pretty good on the really narrow stuff, and on my first go-round I had almost made it around the lower turn - you descend, you make a sharp left and cross a wee little bridge, then you make another left and start climbing up an off-camber turn with some roots. The first time I fell off and laughed. The second time I nearly got through the roughest patch and then stalled and fell over onto my back with my head downhill and my feet pointing upwards. I thought it was hysterically funny, and got pix of the trees I was staring up into and the sprawl of myself and De Selby the Raleigh -
Well, it WAS a pretty view ...
I had trouble getting up at first because I was laughing pretty hard
De Selby, looking like a crime scene
It was dark and overcast, and my visibility in the woods was less than ideal, so I came out of the woods and rode the crush and run path around the pond, sometimes sweeping up onto the singletrack running parallel to the outer edge. After a few circuits I flipped the wheel 'round and did the circuit on the 60-in fixed side.
The bike awaits in the garage, and I know I get to true up the front wheel and figure out how to get the ancient headset to stop loosening up - or maybe even replace it. But other than that, the bike handled the dirt very well. The ride was only 5 miles or so but I had a great time and will be taking this bike out on trails a lot this fall!
