Dang it, in a moment of weakness I texted the dude. I figure he would first-come-first-served me but he agreed on the spot... I guess I'm taking a drive tomorrow.

I'm guessing I'll catch and release. It seems too complete to where parting it would be a crime. I'll put some work on it just for the joy of working on it and ride it with a different wheelset. I'm not set for tubulars.

The square taper bottom bracket and rear derailleur hanger would suggest mid 70's. It has a sticker with "Campione del mondo 1966", but that's because this was the year they won the world championship. For the next 12 years, all their bikes got that sticker, right until they won it again in 1978.

I'm also curious as to what year it is. It has better campy bits (better than Valentino, which was garbage). I think those high-flange hubs should have a production date code. At first sight from a bad picture the components seem to match the 1972 Professional model, which should make those Campy bits Nuovo Record.

By the way, how much is this thing worth once it is back in running order? Now that it is going to be mine I suppose I should care about that :}

I really like 70s era road bikes with center pull brakes. They have good tire clearance and eyelets so they are versatile platforms to work with.

I still would like to get an idea of value. My thing is mostly touring bikes and a bit of the early mountain bikes (the era with straight top tubes, lugged frames, and lugged forks).

I'm picking it up in a few hours. It sounded like a done deal but you know how fickle Facebook marketplace transactions can be.

I'm glad to say it is in much better shape than I expected. The guy I bought it from said it pretty much spent the last 35 years in the garage. It was extremely grimey but once that started coming off the components actually look pretty darn pristine:


The other parts are in similar condition. It also came with a few vintage goodies; tire saver wires, vintage Specialites TA water bottle cage, and a impero silca pump with Campagnolo branded pump head. Mechanically it is also in great shape, everything is smooth. The only issue is the headset indexing a tad in the forward position.

The chrome is good but the paint is in sad shape, plenty of scrapes here and there. But other than that, configuration-wise it seems to be all original.

I'll take a few pictures of the whole bike tomorrow, after I get a chance to finish the clean-up and repacking the hubs/bottom bracket. That should be enough to take it for a quick spin.

For what is worth the date stamp on the Campy hub locking nut is for 1970.

Finally cleaned, but not detailed. The darn dry grease crust was extra hard; it fought for every inch of the bike. Chain ended up being scraped link by link. But worth the effort as it was the original Regina chain. I still need to overhaul hubs, headset, bottom bracket, and pedals; nothing does more damage to bearings than running them dry.

but dry I ran them! Well for about half a mile to get a feel of the bike. It rides extremely well, a nice road feel, I thought it would be harsher with them skinny tires but I only inflated them to 80PSI. It did not have that instant-acceleration feeling modern road bike have but it has that steel feeling that just makes me happy. The only issue is that the brake levers are low, accessible mostly from the drops. I need to bring them up to my liking.

Once I get the chance to overhaul bearings all around I'll take it out for a proper spin.

Does anybody wants to take a guess at valuation? I'm more familiar with Japanese steel.

Nice bike! In today's market, I'd say between $300 and $600 for a local sale, depending on location. In Southern California, probably worth around $400 to $500 IMO.
