Nope, not lame. My opinion was based on the mini groups I lightly described and not on a group of people participating in an event. An evening bike ride on a random Tuesday is not an event.

You can relax with the ignorant comments, not very nice. Certainly my opinions didn't fall into the pc column but I can confidently say that you have been guilty of judgment that others perhaps consider ignorant. Everybody has been guilty of judging. Maybe if I practiced a slightly more tactful ability to express my distaste for roadie gear I wouldn't have a person who doesn't know who I am calling me ignorant. If I had elaborated that I find the specific individuals I see on a regular basis riding along the bike paths here wearing the same gear taking the whole width of the path and not budging one inch for others to pass in the opposite direction because they were too busy pretending to be in the heat of important training, then you might understand where my original comments were coming from.

Anyway my initial comments were more or less sarcasm.

Damn, if I buy enough pairs of $360 skinny jeans to last a week or so, do they throw in a free Kalavinka with Aerospokes and Oury-wrapped risers?

Meh, I commute in (regular) jeans. It's not uncomfortable. On longer rides, I usually wear some climbing knickers and a wool t-shirt. I've done a few centuries that way. No big deal at all. I don't care if people wear lycra and spandex, but I don't feel the need to. *shrug*

I have a regular kilt that I've often thought of wearing on the bike, but I just don't see the experiment ending well.

My $10 jeans were comfortable and are still fine after a year of heavy use. My $30 department store jeans are comfortable and typically last for a few years. I'll guarantee those jeans won't be around in a hundred years and I'm confident that they won't last for 36 years of wear either.

I put lots of miles on in my jeans. If they fit properly it's no big deal. I suppose that skin tight jeans (which seemed to be popular a while back, in fact I saw lots of guys in womens jeans) might require advanced techniques ($$$) to be comfortable while biking.

I can't decode any of that past the first sentence. "Denim is for **** beyond 5 blocks unless one thinks hipness is next to godliness...then there's no reasoning w/them." What? Did you mean: "Denim sucks for trips over 5 blocks. It's only worth it if one thinks hipness is more important than comfort. Those people are unreasonable."

I have ridden 30 miles in jeans. Not exactly what I would call comfortable but it's not like your arse will spontaneously combust.

It kind of makes me laugh to see jeans equated with hipsterdom.

I mean, check out these pathetic fashionistas:

wow! four pages on a pair of jeans lol. really who cares what people look like, their riding bikes. as far as the roadies go I would imagine full kit must do some good, why else is the lycra so popular? I admit to looking like a "hipster" much of the time(even before it was cool!) but I wouldn't do anything to intentionally make myself uncomfortable! I usually find slightly tighter clothes to be more comfortable, but usually along the lines of a traditional fit jean. I usually wear cotton/lycra or wool/lycra blend jeans or pants, or cheaper thrift store stuff heavily modified and tailored to fit better or into knickers. If I'm going on a longer ride I wear a pair of bike shorts underneath along with a merino wool polo shirt or a vintage wool jersey, if it is cold I wear a set of merino wool underwear underneath. I am always very comfortable, and that is important to keep me riding!

Hehehe.

BTW, I'd never ride in sandals in the winter, so probably won't snow ski in them. When I water ski, I don't have any footwear on. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a good set of barefoot pedals for my cruiser. Can't wait to roll barefoot next summer!

Oh, and I've ridden 50 miles in jeans, too. I probably wouldn't recommend it to most people, but I do 8-20 miles a day in them 5 days a week when the morning temp is below 55 degrees. Denim training is crucial, ya know!

Ha ha ha ha ha! Good one... this is some sort of "The Onion" newspaper fake advert.... right?

How about this one:
Q. Why did the manufacturer decide on $360 for a pair of jeans?
A. Because is sounded like a nice round figure!

For only ~$100 you can pick up a pair of Draggin Jeans. Made with Kevlar (hey, no road rash!).

i guess people dress like lance cause they wanna be seen as "racers". kinda like car commuters wearing nomex driving suits and full face helmets inside their Lincoln Navigators. once bikes are more accepted as transportation and less as toys, "normal clothes riding" will be more common.
