Well, it wasn't loaded, but it had been at one time. I'd completely rebuilt this beauty in preparation for doing The Transamerica in 2016. Fell in love, sold the bike and moved to New Zealand. lol After this pic I got a Sugino XD 600 triple and Ultegra bar cons. I had completed a tour of Ireland, Scotland and Wales about 10 years prior. The stock setup was RSX brifters w/26-36-46×12-28t 7 that I upgraded to a 12-36t 9 sp. Softride Travelers never caught on for touring. Too bad as this was a great touring bike. Spring loaded stem w/a carbon fiber bar.

Gearing up for the first trip of the year. A couple of new bags, new remote dropper post lever position, and a packing rearrangement.
I can't wait.

Camping on the Rhine River

On the banks of the Rhine, just south of Cologne at Camping Berger. Nice place. Only 15 Euros a night. Would recommend.
This place was across the street from the campground. Whimsical!

Spent a couple of nights camping on the banks of the Rhine. Was forced to evacuate due to flood conditions.

Where did you start? I'm scheduled to ride with my son from his house in Wil, Switzerland to Koblenz along the Rhine in August. I'll be on my 199something Bike Friday.

I flew into and started from Frankfurt am Main. I spent a couple of nights at the Frankfurt Youth Hostel (they are for all ages now). Went down the Main (pronounced Mine) river to Wiesbaden and spent a couple of nights at the youth hostel there. It took me a few days to get adjusted to being half way across the world. The youth hostels cost a little over 50 bucks a night (for a potentially shared room) and include breakfast. They cost half that in Belgium and France. They are a little egalitarian, which I like, if you're not familiar with them. They can be kinda fun because other bike tourers, packers, riders and travelers frequent them.

Then I started staying at campgrounds on the Rhine river. They were about 15 to 20 bucks a site and seemed like there was one every 10 to 15 km. They say the best part of the Rhine is between Mainz and Cologne. My advice is to try to do the minimum amount of miles a day so you can sit on the banks of the Rhine, watch the transport ships motor by and sip on a beer or two in the sunshine. It is an incredible way to while away the afternoon and soak up the vibe. The campground in Koblenz at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle rivers is nice. The fortress on the bluff is worth a visit. There is a youth hostel up there as well.
I only went to Cologne and then headed towards Aachen and Belgium.

I'm starting my 6th week over here, living on my bicycle. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
Larry

No, I crossed the sierra from S to N, coming from Soria. But I liked it there as well, hope one day to go back and explore some more.

Day 1 heading out from Rochester, MN over to Lake City to pick up the MRT USBR 45

Day 8 the return trip to Rochester. I rode up to St. Cloud and then came back on the east side of the Mississippi River. I came around the south end of Lake Pepin to Lake City before heading back to Rochester.

Somewhere in Spain, between Burgos and Castrojeriz.

1. Spain is a beautiful country
2. I had to remove my fenders, clogged with very sticky mud. Some of it still clearly visible despite spending close to 1 hour trying to remove it
3. @str takes much better pictures

hola hombre, you are hauling ass (going fast) I know back in my normal boring daily life it just seems like a short time ago you were starting this trip, its pretty cool to see where you are now on the map.
The Troll at least has a lot more clearance for mud, but I'm glad you could get the fenders off fairly easily.
Share more photos, always fun to see more.

Thanks Kiwisaver! Out of all my bikes, this is the only one I ride. It does everything. It's so stout but yet so nimble. Best bike I ever bought. Was an absolute monster on tour, and so plush. On road it was like being in a Cadillac, off road it conquered everything I threw at it. I can't say enough for the Bombtrack Hook EXT-C.
