I'll play. Some of my 'dumb' wisdom....

NOT this brand of bar, but some years back inverted a similar steel bar mounted on a 27" wheel road bike. Did some silly off-roading, as in real off-roading with jumps and drop offs. With high PSI in the tubes, ran it hard and kept up with a few ATB riders. Bent both sides of the bar where circled in red. I didn't even notice it until the end of the day. The top curvature at a glance looked OK but was clearly kinked underneath. Had I taken it for another adventure, those suckers might have snapped. Don't know why I still have them but humbly admit the application is not a good idea.

Michael,

The saddle you have on your Peugeot, who makes it?

(The Brooks saddle deal isn't happening)

I like these from Velo Orange. The pivots are bushed and the bands are stainless. The CPSC mandated balls at the end can be ground off if they offend you. The $12 price is hard to beat.

Good choice. I have them on two bikes. They're direct copies of old Weinmanns, but the SS clamps are a big improvement. Flexing the clamps on the old Weinmanns would cause the chrome to flake off and they'd rust. The nylon bushings gives them a less sloppy feel. I have another bike with Weinmanns, but I've switched the clamps to stainless.

Drop bars don't work well for me, either.

The new bars, grips and levers came in the mail today. In my excited haste to replace the rear cable, while on the back lawn, I lost a grommet! I actually heard it fly! Like in whipped off the end of the housing into the lawn! after 45 minutes I gave up. I'll make a new one at work tomorrow. Long sigh!

Waiting for the new saddle to arrive. I found a suitable grommet, replaced brake pads, adjusted the handle bars and brakes and took it for a ride.

I like it a bunch! I'll wait for the new seat and make adjustments to the bars and report back later.

With pictures.

I told my wife I would finish her China Cabinet before I finished my Peugeot. I'm waiting for a rear rack. The doors are cut and glued, and I pick up the glass on Monday.

(I tried for over an hour to get a good picture. In front of the fence, garage door, shed inside by a window.... I settled on this until my BIL the photographer gets here on Monday.)

Good, but the levers are probably angled wrong. You have to twist your wrists to lift your fingers over them. The line drawn through the handlebar and the lever should be an extension of the line drawn through your forearm.

Thanks for the tip on positioning the levers.

Both levers are loose. Loose enough to set them where I want once I get all the other adjustments right. I'm not there yet. I'm kinda slow.

Bike looks great! Is that the VO saddle? how do you like it. I have been tempted but by the time they ship to Canada they are almost as expensive as Brooks so I haven't tried the VO.

Beautiful bike!

I noticed that, too. I like the levers to contact my fingers between the first and second joint. That's where grip strength is the highest.

Mark,

That is the VO saddle, I like it very much.

Took a long ride through Marblehead and got a "Nice Bike!" from a guy on the street. Cool!

I have this funky chrome rack for the rear. I like it for it's seat lug mounting. It has a few rust spots that I'll touch up and see what you guys think.

Pics in the morning, it's been a long day.

I'd go with a moustache bar. It let you keep the road brakes and levers and has a vague North Roadish position.

Grant Petersen spec'ed it for the Bridgestone X0-1. Its the least expensive flat bar you can get.

I don't think they resemble North roads at all and the ones spec'd on the XO-1 are neither flat nor inexpensive.

I have the same issue with low levers, needing to drop down to brake isn't safe in the city. I am thinking about gettings flats or trying to adjust the brakes, either moving their position or getting aero or dual levers.
