I wondered if the owner of this bike would speak up. I googled "in images" 650B conversion. That pic as well as many came up. I picked it because I love the trek, Plus it had such a clean background to make a Meme!
Thanks
John

My nickname at home is "Bicycle Repairman." When I came home from work, my wife would alert me to something needing repair around the house, a car, or a bicycle: "We have a job for Bicycle Repairman."
(I did actually work as Bicycle Repairman for two years at Bikecology to help finance my graduate education at UCLA.)

People like to travel: that is why the grass is greener over the fence. We are walkers --- our natural means of travel is to put one foot in front of the other. The bicycle seduces our basic nature by making walking exciting. It lets us take 10-foot strides at 160 paces a minute. That's 20 miles an hour, instead of 4 or 5... It is not only how fast you go --- cars are faster and jet planes faster still. But jet-plane travel is frustrating boredom --- at least the car gives the pictorial illusion of travel. Cycling does it all --- you have the complete satisfaction of arriving because your mind has chosen the path and steered you over it; your eyes have seen it; your muscles have felt it; your breathing, circulatory and digestive systems have all done their natural functions better than ever, and every part of your being knows you have traveled and arrived.

I could not find the original cartoon - which read,
"If you go out that door to buy another bicycle, we're done!"
guess this joke applies to lots of people's hobbies and obsessions.

Reminds me of a non-bicycle-related poem:
When I'm in a sober mood, I worry, work and think.
And when I'm in a joyous mood, I gamble, play and drink.
And when my moods are over, and my time has come to pass,
I hope they bury me face down, so the world can.......
When I'm in a sober mood, I worry, work and think.
And when I'm in a joyous mood, I gamble, play and drink.
And when my moods are over, and my time has come to pass,
I hope they bury me face down, so the world can.......

In the morning they did warn me
it would be a day of rain.
But how could I've predicted
such tumult on its way!
Stroke after stroke I pedaled
with a swift and forceful motion,
but water fell upon me
as if amidst a stormy ocean.
Water, water everywhere
and not a drop to drink!
Water, water everywhere,
my bike did nearly sink!
it would be a day of rain.

There was a book called The Cyclist's Companion, which was a collection of interesting facts or stories. Might have been sold by Rivendell back in the day??? It also included some rather vintage drawings in the style of Frank Patterson depicting cyclists out for a ride in the countryside. These drawings were given a new and humorous caption, under the heading "Old Picture, New Caption".
I gave the book to someone else, but did scan a few of these before doing so. Here are a couple...
It was an entertaining and amusing book.
If you are interested in getting a copy, here's the critical info:

There was a series of cartoons about Calvin's conflicts with his bike. I'll have to look through my archives, but I did find a Sunday comic that used this theme....
