Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Thank you, TBH I was planning on stripping it and painting it similar to the Van Rysel pro bike but still undecided. I have 2 other bikes on the go for paint ATM but this one is so fun to ride and I don't have the time.

Yes, 42mm Sawtooth set up tubeless. They are my 3rd set (on various bikes) - they are a bit heavy but have worked well for me.

It's an underrated tire. A bit heavy, yeah, but they roll well and last almost forever.

Spotted on FB marketplace for $400. 2015 Specialized CruX Besides a little grip tape that needed to be replaced looked in great condition. I've been wanting a drop bar road bike to start riding in the road. Figured this would be good enough to serve as an all roads bike for me as we have quite a bit of gravel around here too. Pulled the phone holder off and took it for a quick 13 mile spin. Handlebars were definitely too high. Caused my back to hurt and spent most of the last part of the ride in the drops. Flipped the stem and set the spacer at +4 degrees so it's a -4. Just did 6 laps around the neighborhood (2 miles each lap) with a pit stop in between to adjust saddle height and seat set back. Much more comfortable now compared to that first 13 mile ride. This is my first real drop bar bike. Think I will enjoy it. Going to try some of the local gravel on the 33's but I can see me putting as big a tire as I can get in there. Not sure what a good compromise size will be for a bike that will see 50/50 gravel and tarmac. But I think I can get a 38 in there comfortably.

Nice score! For tires that are reasonably efficient on the road, and can handle gravel competently, my recommendation is the Tufo Thundero.

Apparently every 5 years I get the gravel itch.
GT Grade, Hunt 650s, tubeless pirellis, Cane Creek eeSilk cockpit, and a brooks to keep it cushy.

Brown bartape immanent,.

Done, plus some
Since I was rewrapping the bars I thought it would be a good time to change them out, put on a 44cm wide set of 50mm rise Redshift Top shelf's and also their grip system. Also was a good time to swap out the 2x10grx for 2x12 GRX820. Silca boa seatpack and Ti cages.
21lbs as pictured, I think that's pretty proper for having a loaded seatpack, fat 650's, suspension cockpit, and a BROOKS!

Probably under 18lbs with no seat pack, a modern saddle, and a little less sealant 😂

This is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden that wasn't a fully.

The Redshift Topshelf's were a big pain in the ass to route housing cleanly on, after much deliberation this was the result.
Proper, id say.

I posted this bike when it was blue/white but being home sick for 11 days is never good when a person is used to being busy all the time. The photos do not show how the blue changes to green/purple in the sunlight but it still looks ok here. I included a photo of the old paint to compare.

While I think you make a good point about 700c wheels, people have also been happily riding on gravel with 26” and 650B wheels for a long time. The people in the Show Your Vintage MTB Drop Bar Conversions have mused that they invented gravel bikes before they had a name, and few of those are 700c bikes. I think there are gravel bikes that manufacturers have labeled and will sell you, and there are bikes that people have adapted to ride on gravel. There’s room on the fire roads for both. The OP looks to have adapted a bike that works them.

The Trek Boone still has that Token Ninja BB stuck in the shell so while I'm procrastinating on getting that's fixed, I picked up this frameset and built up my "backup" gravel bike to salvage what's left of summer.

Love the look of rim brake CX turned gravel bikes from 10-20 years ago.
Fully internal cable routing looks clean and simple, but to me these sort of bikes also look clean and simple, despite exposed cables.

I chuckle when I am on my current hydraulic disc brake carbon fork carbon wheel gravel bike and randomly think about how I have the same stats now aswhen I rode my steel frame and fork rim brake aluminum wheel gravel bike.

So this is my summer project, the bike I am thinking of using in next year’s Tour Divide. It’s a GT Carbon Grade, a little hard to find here in Japan. The shifters and derailleur are GRX 820, the crankset and cassette are XTR 9200. I wanted something which would climb, the 34t ring and the 10~51 cassette should do the job. Bar is a Deda Super Zero carbon, stem is a Thompson Elite X4, the seat post is a Thompson Masterpiece.

The brakes are GRX 820 calipers with Swissstop Catalyst Race rotors and Exotherm 2 pads. The fork is a Rockshox Rudy with 40mm of travel. Wheels are Mavic Allroad, which I had planned to upgrade. I put a couple thousand miles on these wheels when they were fitted to another bike, and they’ve been so durable that I’m thinking about keeping them. We’ll see.

The bike rides beautifully, the fork makes getting over rocks and tree roots much more manageable.

edit: the look of concentration (rather than a 2 handed wave) is because the route descended from the ridge line, ..way above rider's head....and the corner continued to the right.
