I believe I actually found the wheelset of this 10K bike used for 500.

Aside from not knowing disc from rim, tubular from clincher and so forth, I don't see what the price of random used parts has to do with the price of a new bike. Of course by now few expect anything but nonsense.

Yes, I disagree. I spent more on wheels for my gravel bike than I did on the frame. Both were bought new. Sometimes a frame is the most expensive part. Sometimes it's not. People who know, know. You're guessing.

Comparing prices for used items with new, discounted items or new MSRP price is sorta dumb. There's always deals to be had, but that's just not an apples-to-apples comparison and doesn't make any sense.

A Super Record EPS group set was over $4K last year when I bought my Scylon. That's why it has Ekar. And what kept the price under $10K.🤑
People buy expensive bikes for all sorts of reasons. Mine is my summer commuter and my go-to for group rides. I expect that before I am done with it, it will have cost me less than the IRS allowance for mileage.

You are mistaking the exception for the rule.
I disagree. It's funny that you could get the same series of wheelset used for such a ridiculously low price, while the whole bike sells for 10K. It's a sign of the wildly inflated prices when buying a bike new.

Enve SES 4.5 AR Disc wheelset sells for $2550. Some very good frames can be found for less than $2500.
EDIT:
DT Swiss ARC 100 Dicut wheelset $2900
Cadex 65 Tubeless wheelset $3200
Zipp 454 NSW Tubeless wheelset $4221

If you don't like the price, don't buy it. No one is saying you need to spend $10k. So far, nothing has indicated that you have enough knowledge, understanding, or experience to judge someone else's decision to spend $10k of their own money on a bike.

Sure, but you're talking to the wrong crowd. Knowledge of overpriced bikes and bike components isn't news to anyone who'd been into cycling for a little while or longer. To those in the know - comparing used to new prices just doesn't make any sense. You're in the process of learning that for yourself. Just keep at it, you've got a lot to learn.

Explain again, for those not in the know, why comparing used to new prices doesn't make sense when determining value?
The guy says he rode less than 1000km on those wheels, so they are practically new. It's a fun fact that you could get the wheels of a 10K bike for 500 bucks, I'm sure not everyone instinctively knows that.

Nah, that bike probably isn't 10K. DangerousDanR must've been referring to something else or maybe he just used hyperbole.
The 2023 version of the Time Alpe DHuez with disc brakes is only around 3K.

I said "pretty much any" and do you mean this RLT9RDO frame?

The same people consistently try to hijack and bait, that is the current crowd. All I can do is report and wait for real responses.
Actually I like that one, but I haven't seen those available here. They jack up the prices beyond belief in Europe.
Yeah I've been looking for CF wheels for a while now. Stuck between Lamda and Roval. One's going for 350 and the other 500-ish. The Cosmic ones look nice, but they are disc models, so no rim brake surface.
Yes. I bought it new, from an online retailer who offered an additional discount, for $1200.
If you think those wheels are a great deal, and fit your needs and bike configuration, maybe you should buy them. Personally, I've had mixed results with buying used wheels. Enough so that I will only do it now if they come as part of a complete bicycle.

You really don't know the difference between new and used?
As far as value goes -- that is determined by the market. And the market clearly indicates that new items are more valuable because they sell for higher prices.

There are a lot of real responses in this thread so far, in my opinion. Take some time to re-read some of the posts above. You can learn a lot.

In the week and a half that you've been here, you seem to have some pretty strong conclusions about the BF community. Or, maybe you've been here before...

You actually agreed about the point of diminishing returns.
So an interesting question could be whether you believe that point, relative to the lower prices of course, would be different with used bikes or parts?
No not at all, just a select, recurring few who seem bored.

The value of anything - new or used - is driven by the market. A wheelset that sells for $2000 new, but $500 used doesn't mean the new one is overpriced. The lower price of the used set reflects people's concern about the condition, the lack of warranty coverage, and other unknowns that make the purchase a gamble.
