Great weather for a ride to Bowdoinham. https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1057654843 I took the Grubb completely apart over the winter and re-lubed everything. I am now riding with a spare tire, rather than just a can of Stan's. I tried to take some photos in other locations, but the deerflies had other ideas.

There is an urban forest area with multi use paths not too far and I ride through there ever so often .

I stopped at one of the entrances today for a couple pics of my Austro Daimler Puch.

More Bim time, now fully loaded. 11.5 pounds in the rear, 4.5 up front. Buddy flap and a pool noodle pad to keep the front bag off of the MiniMoto cable hanger.
Half of today's ride was on what we call 'gravel track', narrow twisty gravel paths with elevation changes, tree roots, etc. The kid of technical surface that shows up a bike's handling faults pretty quickly.

I ended Friday's ride mad, frustrated, and depressed at how badly the second replaced knee was adversely affecting my riding. So, after a rainy day yesterday I just said screw it and hoped on the Guv'nor for a total "I don't care" ride. Just cruised around Eden taking pictures for about an hour and a half. Probably never got more than 3 miles straight-line distance from the house. It was a glorious time out.

The Guv'nor is built by Pashley. Basically it's the 1935 frame design of an English Path Racer built with Reynolds 531 tubing and modern components. It's a 3 speed IGH with a 177% range. Fun bike that's quite beautiful, quite heavy, and yet plenty fast. When riding normally I take this on 20-50 mile rides and have averaged over 16 mph on long rides. The gearing for long, shallow, sustained climbs is not there or I'd be able to hold a higher average.

A 260Z saved my life in 1978 when my driver fell asleep doing about 65 mph on the highway and we hit a van parked in the breakdown lane. Extra reinforcement in the engine well was appreciated.

Back out today for a Memorial day ride. That meant one of the "patriotic" bikes. So this time I hopped on the Cannondale for the 32 mile ride. Knee kept giving me trouble until I stopped at about mile 25. Moved the saddle up about 1/4" and it seemed to make all the difference. Anyway, pics from the ride.


15 lbs, 14 ozs. Yesterday's Guv'nor weighs more than 2x this one.

Recently moved to Lewiston, Idaho. Ignored the back issues today and headed out to ride new to me roads. Nice views along the Snake River. Crappy chip seal roads. Looking forward to the climbing around here.

Today, we had low humidity and temps around 80, so in honor of the vintage 1970’s late May weather I wore a wool jersey! It was still low 60’s in the AM when I rode. Did an 18 mile ride around town on the C40, what a fantastic bike! Gets me every time! After that hopped back on the city bike to go picnic with my bride to belatedly celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. Sorry no pics today but here’s my Reynolds 753 Merckx from a ride a couple of days ago. Not sure if I’ve put up a pic since I stripped it of the C Record and installed a more hill friendly Super Record with compact crank.

I did a 45 mile ride today on the Chichaqua trail which is a fabulous rail to trail conversion NE out of Des Moines. It has lots of wooden bridges over the streams that cross this area, a few nice stops (including one very good coffee shop), and a terrific canopy of trees that cover almost the entire ride. I took very few photos but I did take one at the beginning of the ride (I loved the sign) and one at the end of the trail where I turned around to head back. I rode my 1980 Raleigh Record Ace:

It's a beautiful sunset in Philly.

I'm happy to find another Molteni orange Merckx fan.
I started cycling in 1975 and the king in the bike racing was Eddy Merckx, Japan's Miyata build orange Merckx bikes.
I was a high school kid and couldn't buy a Miyata Merckx.
Since then Molteni orange Merckx bikes haven't left from my mind.
In 2022, I found this bike in Yahoo Auction Japan at long last!

The plan today was to head out early for a ride up Snowbasin, the first since the second knee replacement. But unforecasted rains delayed me and I really wanted to be home by 1 for the Dortmund vs Real Madrid game. So I grabbed the Davidson and just did a cruise around the valley taking pictures. As I prepped the Impulse I wondered again if it was time to move this one on. But during the ride it just stole my heart again. Such a good ol' bike. Didn't ride hard most of the time but I did have a few miles here and there where I got after it. The Davidson still flat out accelerates and flies!
