Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Have you done that one? One of my friends (the only one of my 'old' friends that [occasionally] rides) has mentioned it, but didn't really give an impression, one way or another.

Was talking to my wife about this Sunday after my ride down there reminded me. She grew up in that town so we always go to Jesse James Days and I've been wanting to do the century ride there (it's VERY popular). So, we decided to get a hotel for Friday night so I could do the ride in the morning and then we could do the touristy stuff the rest of that day and Sunday.

Yeah, checked the hotels and of course they're all booked. Probably have been since they announced the dates.

I still might anyway. It's only 25 miles from me so getting to the 6:30 start isn't overly difficult. Having a hotel would have made it easier to enjoy more of those bloodies though.

Edit: and it would have allowed my wife to sleep in while I went of and bicycle cycled.

No I didn't wreck the C6. Just busy. Great ride today. Days like this provide a glimmer of hope I can get fit again.

Note to all you idiots who think electronic shifting isn't as reliable as mechanical: the rear brake cable on my Scott Foil snapped yesterday. The electronic shifting has NEVER failed in 3+ years.

Not that I know of. But if you keep taking a month off between posts it's bound to happen eventually.

Glad all is ok and the 'vette is not trashed.

Yep.

Also crucial to have disc mount holes positioned with respect to the droupout, so sliding vertical dropouts are the bees knees.

What does a brake cable have to do with shifting? And that question comes from someone symptathetic to electronic.

Last night Mrs. Doug28450 and I were heating up some leftovers for dinner and the phone rang. Mrs. Doug28450 answered and it was the girl across the street wanting to know if I would pump the tires up on her bicycle. She is a sophomore in HS, taking a summer school class and was planning to ride the bike to school. I was volunteered to pump up the tires. A few minutes later the girl knocks on the door and we head to the garage. The bike looks like this:

Pure - Trek Bicycle

The front is dead flat and flopping around on the rim like a fish out of water. The back seems to be okay, just a bit soft. I get the pump and start looking for the valve stem on the front tire. Can't find the valve stem. Keep looking, rotating the tire, no stem. Finally, I see a hole in the rim where a valve stem should be projecting. I look at her and say I can't help you. You need a tube and I don't have on for this size tire. Go to Wal-Mart, get a tube for this tire. When you get back bring everything over and I will fix it.

She never did come back with a tube.
