Favorite tire and size for city riding?
What are your favorite tires and size for just all out crummy city streets? Potholes, ditches, jagged roads, gravel shoulders, riding across grass, gravel shoulders, etc.
Right now I am riding panracer t-serv messenger in 35s.
The tires are great, much more smoother of a ride than the 25's I had on before. But there is definitely a difference in resistance though. I guess it's a trade off.
Was looking at the gatorskins in 28's, or maybe even these t-serv messengers in 28's. But was wondering what some others favorite tires are.
Thanks.

I think there's a big difference in weight and rolling resistance between 28s or 32s and 35s. I have Pasela TG folding in 700x35c on my Kilo WT and can definitely feel the weight and rolling resistnce, but they ride on even the roughest roads like I'm riding on a cloud. I have a RiBMo in 700x28c front and 700x32c rear on my Salsa Casseroll and they roll much easier with only a slight increase in harshness. I've ridden the RiBMo's on some pretty bad roads with lots of debris and they have faired well with no tread cuts or flats.

Panaracer Pasela TG's in 28 on the Pake.
Continental GP3000 front and Hutchison Quartz in the rear, both 23 on the Pinarello
Forte Greenway 26x1.95 on the Schwinn

I like 700 x 28 Specialized Armadillos b/c it is impervious to flats, more comfortable than 700 x 23/25. Still rides like a pair of garden hose, but that's the trade off. Armadillo elites have better ride quality. Never rode the 28 version though just 23.
My second choice is Bontrager Hardcase 700 x 32c. Ride quality is a whole like better than the dillos and still has great puncture resistance. hardly any thread though so not so good for grass.

I currently ride crappy stock 25s that are really slow and prone to flats. I have some Hutchinson 23s coming that should hopefully give me less rolling resistance and weight, but we'll see how they hold up to potholes and how they affect the bumpiness of the ride.
I should note that the rodes I ride on are pretty decent in general, but when they are bad, they are absolutely terrible.

I've only ever had a soma everlast x23 on the rear, used to skid around a lot and run through them in 2-3 months. Since I stopped messing around though, i've had this last one for a year and i'm ready to get rid of it and not buy another. at least 2 noticeable flat spots on it, can feel when riding. Plus it has no puncture resistance at all.
Been riding some gommitalia x23 folding front tire for a while now. It's held up very nice. Seems a bit more on the 24c side, but i'm fine with that. Would like a little more than 120 psi though. I just got it cause it was cheap and blue.
Might look for something 25c to replace my rear coming into the winter. Never tried a fatter tire, but don't think i'd mind it so much. I usually ride a bit slower in the rain anyways

Conti Top Contact 28 mm: the best city tire I've ever ridden.
Reasonably light, low rolling-resistance, super flat resistant, reflective side walls, and great handling.

I ride 23c Vittorio Rubino on my fixed. I prefer the lighter weight and lower rolling resistance and just pick better lines when riding. The wear on this tire is great too, way better life than I got with my armadillos for skid stopping. Armadillo absolutely suck for riding fixed, they wear was too fast for the price.

I've been riding 23c Gatorskins and they've been great... but thinking of making the jump to 25 or maybe 28c for smoother riding.

25c gatorskins for me. I believe it is the best compromise between resistance and harshness. Hopefully they'll last me a long time.

Right now I am riding panracer t-serv messenger in 35s.

Was looking at the gatorskins in 28's, or maybe even these t-serv messengers in 28's. But was wondering what some others favorite tires are.
Thanks.

Currently ride a 35 vitoria up front and a 32 hardcase in the rear, and I love them. The only complaint I have is that I ride brakeless and Im eating up the Hardcase. Got a 32 gatorskin coming in the mail so well see how that works out.

Panaracer tourguard 35s and I like them a lot. Personally I don't like to go less than 32, maybe 28, on city roads. My road bike has 23 tubulars and it is a bone shaker for sure.
