Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

it's magical year round. It's the former home of @Velo Vol.

I'm spoken for, so the ladies will have to seek another man to fulfill their dreams. Perhaps I'll send them your way.

7 of us on todays ride, the most on a Tuesday. Some climbs early, then some flat ground, then 8 miles up a canyon into a headwind. This was discussed and it was decided it wouldn't be too bad since we had a group to work together. Except I can't climb at their speed so I did the whole thing alone. One of the ladies dropped off but my friend came back and got her. I tried to glom on but I just didn't have it in me. Finally reached the turn-off to a quiet little road with 2 steep climbs but no headwind. The rest of the ride we stayed together for a total of 60 miles and only 3000 feet but it felt like more.

I once saw Mr. Campbell at the PHX airport back in the '80s. We were taking different flights though.

Still not as magical as seeing Stevie Nicks enjoying some local music at Tempe Festival of the Arts back then.

A little more magical than spotting Alice Cooper jogging along the canal while I was riding my bike.

I think I mentioned it here last summer, but a guy I ride with on Thursday was fired from a company he had been with for over 30 years after they gave him the plant manager position. Because a couple employees told Human resources he was mean. He expected people to show up on time and work. They actually called him while he was in Chicago on vacation to do it!
Karma. Some times Karma can be so beautiful that it makes you laugh like a lunatic and weep with joy.

Was on a flight from Vegas to DFW many years ago. Chuck Norris got on the plane with a very pretty woman (now his wife). He sat in 1st class, but she sat in the back with us peasants. A guy we were traveling with was in the seat in front of her, and he turned around to ask her why she wasn't sitting in front with Chuck. Her reply was that he was the star and she was not. Couldn't help but notice that she was reading "Codependent No More."

How many women of Sharpsville do you imagine will make overtures at DougRNS this week?

Raise your hands if you've wore a cape while cycling.

When we got to our resting place only 32 miles from Washington Pass in Winthrop there were tumbleweeds and they were watering the grass at the campground along the Methow River. Conditions were much better in '00. A bit chilly, but no snow.

It's such a waste to have these holidays in December. We need to move Christmas/New Years to spring or summer.
