USS & short wheel base still available?

My wonderful Haluzak Horizon has reached the end of its road, since its seat frame is splitting and the company has gone out of business. This seems to be a big problem with recumbent manufacturers.

Questions:

1. Is there a way to get parts from defunct manufacturers?

2. What current manufacturers produce short wheel base bents with USS? My local store has none.

Mike

For a long time, Bill Haluzak was still making/repairing seat frames. Apparently, they were the most common point of failure. Don't know if he still does anymore or not. If not, you could get it repaired at a local weld shop... or buy a seat from RANS or Bacchetta and retro-fit it. The only SWB-USS in local production that I can think of is the Longbikes Eliminator. There are a few European models, too. None of them are quite like the Haluzak, though.

1. I've only read of the HH but the Hostel Shoppe might have something that'd work?
2. HP Velo's Street Machine ($$$) which is awwwesome!!! Their Grasshopper and Speed Machines are also USS/SWB but I haven't ridden either.

That said, I picked up a Vision R40 with full suspension/USS off CL ($375 and it's barely been ridden) a couple months ago....jackpot! Watch CL via searchtempest.com...that's how I found mine.

This bike looks like great value: https://www.boomerbentsandbikes.com/i...20-26-uss.html

It's designed by Performer Recumbents (https://www.performer.com.tw). I used to have a Tidal Wave 3, by the same designer, and rather regret selling it. Performer bikes are also resold by Actionbent, and I believe Boomer Bents also ship bikes that are partially completed. If you're handy with basic bike tools the assembly is trivial (and fun, I'd say!)

Yeah, I forgot about the Chinese 'bents. Actionbent also has several models of USS SWB. Several of these look like the same bike, just different decals.

You can go here and filter by USS and SWB and see what pops up. Maybe 10 or so current choices. Plus there's the used market, and likely some not on that list.

What a bummer to discard a $2K+ bike because of the seat failure. I own an Haluzak Horizon and really loved the fits and finishes on the bike as well as the quality of the components. You might ask your question on www.bentrideronline.com/messageboard under the technical discussion section. Perhaps someone there has been faced with the same problem and come up with a solution. I've read some reports that Bill Haluzak no longer supplies parts but can not confirm that first-hand. If you love it enough, you might look for a used replacement. I bought mine for $850 a couple of years back. I see them up for sale occasionally but rarely for what I paid for mine locally.

Peter Stull at Bicycle Man may well be able to help with your seat problem.

Challenge offers USS on many SWB models:

For example:

Angletech and RBR are Challenge dealers.

The Bicycle Man still has Haluzak seat frames available on his web store. Bill Haluzak is still reachable via e-mail.
