Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For me a hard 30 miles on Thursday, a "recovery" 30 on Friday that left my legs gassed, and a metric century today. Looking at doing 20 miles on Sunday.

I'm earning a few bottle of Blue Moon.

"But how will he handle the altitude... " Bicycle fitness involves cardiovascular system and also muscles. If the limiting thing for him is muscles getting tired, then he may handle the altitude better than you expect. If the limiting thing is getting out of breath, it could be slow.

I completed a metric century this morning and will complete another metric Sunday. I'll probably just a ride around the city Sunday and visit the family.

Tomorrow will mark my 29th metric for this month. I'm looking forward to a few short recovery rides the first week of June.

Sweet day! 109.8 miles, from Damascus, MD to Arlington, VA and back. Beautiful day, 78 degrees, nary a cloud, cooling breeze. Hammered first 30 miles, hooked up with my buds, rode through DC to VA to watch the pros battle it out at the Air Force Clarendon Cup crit race. Just when I was thinking I could ride pretty well ... them fellers can fly. Last 12 miles or so are climbing back home and I was crying for my mommy. It don't get no better than this. Me thinks the 80 miler tomorrow is going to hurt.

Saturday: 56.4 km out to Sylvan Lake and back.

The ride out was nice - tailwind, not much traffic ... but the ride back was a bit more of a challenge. I couldn't believe the amount of traffic! The road I chose was bumper to bumper in both directions. Just try to find a place to stop to discreetly dig a large flying ant or some such thing out of your jersey when there's traffic like that going on.

Got in a little over 40 miles each day (Fri Sat) while visiting family up in Reno. Climbed both sides of Mt. Rose yesterday. The 8 mile descent from the summit to Incline Village is epic. The 16 mile descent back to Reno not so fun due to traffic and narrow to no shoulder.

Today I rode over Geiger Grade HW 341 to Virginia City. My time from the 7-11 to the summit was a bit over 48 minutes. I recently switched to regular from compact and am getting used to a 39 inner ring. 11-27 in the back and I needed the 27 for the steep climb up at the tail end of Virginia City.

I was out in the evening. Yes in yellow. I only passed a few folk in town, not out on the roads. Were you right in Lacombe ?

I was wearing yellow with a hydro pack. I rode, 12 east, Prentice rd. South, Sargent Lake west, and 2A north back home.

I did not get out today - busy.

No I wasn't right in Lacombe ... I was coming down Hwy 815 by Nova when a cyclist went by.

If all goes well, I'm hoping to head out that way again tomorrow.

I was on Rg.Rd 260 going south not 815. The whole "And did you pass a cyclist in blue on a blue bicycle like she was standing still?" didn't sound like me either ! :-)

Rode to work Friday (11.5 miles) morning. Left work at 4:30 to ride with boss and a client whose office is in our building only to discover after 2 blocks that the two back screws in my brand new cleats vanished sometime between 9 and 4. So the client, whose bike was making a terrible creaking noise from the headset, and I rode carefully to the bike shop and sat around for an hour waiting to get our stuff fixed. After our bikes were sorted I rode with him most of the way to his house and ended up getting in 30 miles for the day.

This morning I did a flat, short 21 mile recovery ride with my boss' beginner cycling class. On the way back we stopped at an open-air market for amazing panini sandwiches.

Put new bar tape on my bike this evening. I probably won't ride on Sunday.

Did a 30 mile ride out and back to Wibble Wobble Hill - 10% for about 1/4 mile. No, not much if you're living in Tucson doing Gates Pass or NoCal doing Mt Diablo, bout for me it's a challenge.

Today i rode with my buddy until we hit 50 Miles. Tommorow we might even go further. I'm 3 Days Old at using clipless pedals, and so far no falls and stoplights aren't a pain.

Enjoy your biking everybody!

Saturday I did an 80 mile ride in the mountains with 9000 feet of climbing. Several BFers were there including vertical bob, scvroadie, urbanknight, Rick@OCRR, and others. It was hot, it was cold, it even rained a little. A great day!

put in 35 local miles yesterday bringing my monthly total to 412. That is significant for me because I have only ridden 724 miles total since purchasing a road bike just before ski season.
