Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well down here in the south we have easy winters, usually only gets below freezing 6-7 times. But man during july-august it gets 100+ outside. Sometimes so hot even the Marines training on Parris island aren't allowed to go outside. So I am seriously enjoying spring and hoping it won't get really hot too soon.

Reminds me of Manitoba!

The last 25 photos in this set are of this area as of yesterday ... just barely starting to be spring. The ice came off the lakes maybe 5 days ago, and the leaves just started coming out. But I've had 2 whole days of cycling outside in shorts and a short-sleeved jersey.

I see the similarity in the topography (but it looks like you're a "few weeks behind" in your Spring)

Well, those photos are of central Alberta, so quite a bit hillier than Manitoba ... but yes, we're way behind when it comes to Spring. We got nearly a foot of snow last Monday/Tuesday. That's only just melted.

There are those who would be jealous of you.

That was my first thought: Where are the climbs?

Yes.

And for those that want climbs there is Bluemound area, west of Madison.

Although in recent years, there has been a lot more trash on the roads in WI. I can't understand how people can just throw trash out of their cars. It use to be in WI, in the '70's, you could ride literally for a hundred miles and not see one candy wrapper. Sigh...

Man, how does one find roads like this?
Great job I hope you get lots and lots of miles in, that's definitely a sprinter's dream.

Nice pics, Gluteus! If you want some climbing just head down mt way near Holy Hill. Nothing real long, but plenty of them.

Looks good to me. Around here in the SW PA mountainous region I live in, I spend 80% of my time climbing. Some of you guys might like that, but as a relatively newb to road bikes it's difficult to be always climbing.
