Another good day to ride.
Maple Valley to Newcastle via the low traffic route.
^^^^ Out the back road, past the outdoor building material storage.
^^^ Past the middle school - muchly empty. Long shadows at only 2:15.
Smooth pavement - soooo nice..
Equestrians for the horse trails. Gooood.
Kayak ‘grabs’ on one of the numerous Cedar River crossings
Nice picnic table along the trail
Local Fire Station
They say you have to win the jersey to wear it. Not a former Swiss National Champion, guess 10 years National Ski Patroller counts as a win.
Home again.

Great set of photos, but I am rather biased.

Best cure for doomscrolling is go hide out on the bike. 52 miles, 4600 ft climbing on a gorgeous day. Got about 10 miles of gravel, mostly new to me roads.
Rode by this once, didn’t stop because I had a front loader behind me who had let me pass. Road didn’t go where I thought it would so turned around and came back (after a 1 mile steep descent)
Morven - old estate owned by UVA and used as a conference center and I suspect schmoozing wealthy donors. Gate was open, so I snuck in and checked it out.
Picnic spot - Green Mountain Rd

Madison County Trails with a group of old retired farts. 27 miles, 13.4 average speed with a 14 mph wind and rolling hills. The others would have been much faster if they didn't have to stop all the time waiting for me.

26 miles up north in a rare afterwork November ride. Getting dark at 4:45pm these days. 70 degrees in Chicago (woot!)
Most of the boats are gone from Wilmette harbor.
Some sailboats up on blocks.
The Baháʼí House of Worship in the golden hour.
Looks like we're getting 70s through the weekend

Ha, yeah I looked at the pic and thought “I don’t remember any black helicopters flying around”. I think he was going for the San Pellegrino.

I've often been envious of the scenery posted from other places. But someone pointed out I have a lot to be grateful for here in New York. Here is my ride on Tuesday. Roads are lightly trafficked and very scenic. Drivers are considerate.
In the background you see the Catskill Mountains in the distance in many pictures. In one or two, you see the Shawangunk Ridge which our house is on.

Today I rode out into the Dairy country of western Marin and Sonoma counties. Our 6 month dry season has usually ended by now, but no rain so far. The hills are very dry. Evidently so is this Flamingo.
This old spring box dried up a few years ago and has been repurposed.

Upgraded the RD on the covid clunker Messa GSX yesterday hard to believe I'm still under $20 out of pocket on this rescue bike. Internet has been down last day or so a bit of delay.

On the back roads trails around Fairplay there are supposed to be several stashes of gold worth several hundred thousand so I keep looking every time I ride. So far found ones small nugget and one tiny dollar coin.

My old British bike group instructed us all to do solo rides today in the spirit of social distancing and to seek unpaved surfaces. I was on my ‘82 Holdsworth Special with 650b x 38mm wheels:
Also still found some nice fall color:

I got up early and decided my busy day allowed me enough time to ride to Hodges and back, and 14 miles beats no miles any day! I got a pic of the Mercian in front of the long-gone People’s Bank and a view of Dixie Drive.

No pics today. I did 30 hilly miles in fantastic weather. Then rode over to pick up a good deal on a small GB handlebar bag. Stopped on the way home for some celebratory steaks and Lambrusco. Damn fine day today.
