My mind is like a steel colander, everything is falling out of it. Remind me of "sparky" - was it one of my YouTube videos?

We got back late from a friends house, but when we did, I had a fantastic surprise awaiting me...

A GIGANTIC thank you Macguyver909 who took it completely upon himself to utilize his skillset to contribute to the grande LeBlande! Sounds like it was more involved for him that just simply shaving off a bit of metal - as it has been for me the entire project. The bike hasn't made it easy!!! But he stepped up and helped out with a huge part of the build! This will allow me to attach the headset to the frame, and thereby attach the fork to the frame - and then we'll actually have a frameset!!

What made it particularly adventurous was that it was a bit touch-and-go with USPS, as the thing had come and gone out of Colorado 2x already. Maybe outside forces were trying to keep this bike from coming together - but nothing will stop the power and beauty of the LeGrande. Dave wasn't sure if he was going to have to make new ones from scratch as a last resort, but we both agreed to hold out for a bit since we had some time, and the USPS came through. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that some USPS worker probably had his own Huffy he was lovingly converting, but then decided to do the honorable thing and return it back into the shipping rotation, no doubt realizing that such an act would have kept a Huffy somewhere out there in the world, whom he has a deep affection for, from being carefully, tastefully, and 'professionally' crafted.

Major thanks to Dave, and to everyone else who has thus far decided to step into the swampy, muck-filled waters of Huffydom, with no fishing trousers.

Also, don't be too quick to ask him for a project - word has it that he only truly loves to work on Huffys!

I also saw we got some other gear as well -

This may not look like a lot to y'all, but this is exactly what I needed to finish up work on the seatpost! I've got a design in mind that I really love, only it is not made in 7/8" (and neither is anything else, for that matter), but I'm excited about this one, as I think it will look really sharp by the time we are done, and I've made one of these before, only borrowing some of the small bits. This time we are going to go from the ground up. We are going to 'upcycle' as people around here like to call it, aka turn something that was older but useful into something completely tasteless and gaudy for absolutely no reason whatsoever and charge out the wazoo for it. Since this part isn't for sale, I guess I can't claim I'm truly 'upcycling'. But I can fix that. This seatpost is for sale. Only $1000.

Glad they made it there, My guess is that subconsciously USPS knew that in order to stay with the spirit of things that It would take 3 times longer and require redoing at least twice. So you have that going for you, which is nice!

Zen, and the art of Huffy maintenance.

Tubs mounted. Got some great assistance from the Dude of Drillium, who walked me through how he did it. These things go up to 200psi, so if the Huffy rode as heavy as a rock, now its going to feel like one too.

Got some other msic stuff done, but nothing that I'm ready to post about. I won't be able to work on the bike for a few days (work), but that is probably a good thing. This thing is absolutely draining! Nothing fits and everything requires something special, including a 'special' human like me to even want to attempt something so dumb like this. When this is all over, I'm going to be a freaking genius, and I'll be able to do anything.

Can you help me with my car? I just fixed it, but you missed it when you blinked

I'm building an in-ground pool, can you be on the crew? Already dug out, and here is the spoon I did it with

NASA wants a new space shuttle, what are your thoughts? Already have the preliminary sketches, I worked it out during my last nap

Next up: more fabrication, including building a seatpost from scratch (DD was really curious about that one...or maybe it was dubious haha!), more brain damage, and I'm even going to be breaking out the Prussian blue.

Mad Honk I'm going to try the BB adapter when I get it, and if it does what I think it will, I'm going to rock it for the time being. DD was also supportive of the idea. I just need to get this thing built and pouring over the details will happen later during phase II, also known as the 'Weightweenie Huffy Epoch', still to come. Also, your prediction of hitting 1000 posts before anything meaningful happens (like attaching Campy to the bike) is about to come true. The FD is really small, you know, probably too small to count.

I wonder who will be the lucky dog for post #1000. It better not be anything of any importance or substance, or I'm going to get upset.

Oh, and almost forgot about this, of course:

Would have happened faster, but had to first fix the dremel. Anway, took that down and cleaned it up a bit, so soon we will be able to proceed. Also gave it a shadetree redneck 'BB facing' lol

This has been at the center of so many of the problems we've had. I know that everyone has complained (including me) about how slow the build has gone, well this has been a big reason.

And when it's all said and done, what is the point again? Well, if anything, it will be a historical account of the steps necessary and actions taken to take and 'standardize' a Huffy, which, in 1000 years when all Huffys become the Stradivarius of the bike world, this revered text will be discovered and new light will be shed on ancient traditions and everyone will want to take their priceless Huffy and do what their ancestors did, so as to relive the past and cherish such sacred history. I know, I know...then I wake up

Don't think USPS was influenced by the project. Sometimes weird things happen in their system.

I once had a package take almost the Biblical "40 days and 40 nights" to travel from origin to me (it was trackable, and somewhere I may still have the tracking details - I was saving them daily near the end). The package traveled well over 1400 mi (and possibly closer to 2000 mi) before it finally made it to me. It "bounced" between major distribution centers at least 2 times (and maybe 3) before it finally got routed correctly.

The distance from origin to me? Less than 125 miles.

I literally could have hiked there (camping overnight as required), picked up the package in person, and walked back with time to spare. Twice. I've had shipments from the Far East take less than 1/2 that amount of time.

There is no point. There is no answer. There is no question. There is only Campagnolo, Huffy, and future.

Anyone who's asking what the point is to this build this late in the game needs to blow the weed out of their downtube. Or smoke more of it. Probably the latter.

Wow, that's coming out beautifully.

I know a guy who once paid $5 for a polaroid of himself standing next to the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard. I always made fun of him for that.

I could see myself paying $5 for a selfie with the Huffy when its done.

I have a vintage Polaroid SX-70 camera I can donate to the cause. Film is not cheap at almost $3 per picture. Inflation should drive the price up to $10-15 per photo.

Glad to see you were sensible and taped the tubular tires and didn't bother with using glue. It would have been messy and distracted from the fine work you are accomplishing on the frame.

Does it need a red and white leather saddle bag with an "H" on each side?

Absolutely of course it does. I'm also feeling some 'UCI World Championship stripes-on-a-fannypack' vibes right now

So, we are 7 posts away from post #1000. I'm sort of wondering...shall we have post #1000 be a post attaching Campagnolo, or perhaps a post about talking about a post attaching Campagnolo? Such difficult philosophical questions constantly bombard me while working on the Huffy.

9/10 agreed. But that 1/10 …just wait til you see what that guy (not me) can do with a toy in his hands.

The spa getaway is coming to a close.

Agreed and I know many have fantastic results with the Dremel, very steady hand, patience of a saint and nerves of steel, dearly departed from the forum DD being at the top of the list.

I have an air powered pencil die grinder from HF and it is my go to when I'm foolish enough to think I can perform that kind of magic.

Also have half a dozen real die grinders for when I have to really screw something up.
