Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sunny again and the top of this climb is around that switchback up there.

After going around this mountain I will descend to where the 2 roads are before turning left to begin the final 5 mile drop. Just after the clump of trees.

At the "T" on top of the ridge, the fire station is over where that cloud is boiling but I'm not going there today. It's a few hundred more feet of climbing to go over there and back.

All dirt from the top back to the streets,, about 7 miles with ruts, loose rocks, and sand. Very different since the recent rain. Once on the descent I didn't take any pics because I was cold and hanging on for dear life. There was one more cloud covering me near the last turn before the 5 mile drop.

Thankfully the sun came back near the bottom and I stopped for a minute to try and get some feeling back in my hands.

There are 3 ways out at the bottom and I usually go that way but the giant rut and possible muddy mess made me pick a short climb instead. Of course, the climb was soft and gooey and was about all I could do to climb it.

How can I route these differently. My large head light hangs underneath the stem but it won’t fit with cables like this. When I put the new bars on I would like this to not be an issue.

Also, the new used rear mavic wheel, when off the bike spins inhibited. So if I hold the wheel in my hands it spins really well. When on the bike it doesn’t spin very long. It’s not brake rub. Thoughts?

I really don’t know how Southwest continues in its current form.

Your front brake cable housing's too long.it shouldn't snake like that. You want it to be running straight into the barrel adjuster. It's also the one that's in the way..

It does go straight to the barrel adjuster?

A) downtube shifters
B) sounds like the skewer is over tightening the hub The hub needs to have some play so that when the skewer tightens it brings it up to snuff and no more.

B. I’ll re investigate. This was what I suspected, but I loosened the skewer as much as I could and have it still be snug. Maybe, I can back it off another turn.

A day in the city. Half hour in the first line, almost two hours in the second line, and then three quick ones. I have appts. with the anesthesiologist, the EKG folk, the x-ray tech, and the lab, in preparation for laser eye surgery sometime after Feb, at least. The process started Oct 11.
aAnd then a visit with the brother of a good friend in Ohio. A beautiful day weatherwise. I wasn't fully recovered at the beginning of the day but I am now.

I've never had a wheel where the skewer tightness affected bearing tightness.

First stop looking back toward the house.

Little further up the sun started to break through.

Turning 180 degrees there is no cloud and the fire station at the top is where those trees are.

Another strange pic further up when a cloud rolled over.
Kind of reminds me of this.

I have 92 miles left. Unless Simon comes early I should knock that out in the next two days.

You have to loosen the hub itself. Just a tiny bit. Loosen the lock nut and back the cone out maybe a half turn. Otherwise, when you lock the skewer, it compresses the axle and over-tightens the hub. You want to compress the axle to correctly tighten the hub. If that doesn't get it, go another half turn, until it's right.

Got up today, and dropped the mutt at the kennel at 7:00 am, then started driving to CS. About an hour in, my wife called to tell me she got us a truck. The Penske counter at Home Depot had one. She told the counter guy that he had to give us that truck. He got on the phone with his boss, and told him he was afraid she would shoot him if he didn't rent her the truck (he may have been right). What he didn't realize is that the cute blonde only packs a .22 sonot a huge threat.

Got the kid packed up, and just got to town. 380 miles round trip. Now have to haul his stuff to Dallas in the morning (where move in labor will be waiting).

PAOTD. 0-60 in 3:42.

I hope I never have to drive one of those again.

Fun fact, when we moved from Charlotte back to VA, I had rented the largest one you can rent. I got to skirts of the Hampton Roads area right at rush hour. GPS started having a stroke and the next thing I know I’m taking an exit with no room. Drive side wheels went off the road and I felt the whole truck lean to the left. I was sure I was going to tip over.

Im not doubting your theory. Just won’t be able to get to it tonight. I already rode it last week like this, so I figure one more ride won’t hurt anything.
