Is it possible to change a chamois pad?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it possible to change a chamois pad?

I have a pair of bib shorts that I really like but the chamois is very uncomfortable. Can you buy just a chamois pad? Would the thin lycra material hold up to removing a chamois and then sewing in a new one?

Anything is possible, but I think by the time you try to remove the old pad and sew a new one in, it might not hold up or be any better. My advice would be to try some different bibs with different types of padding until you find the one you like. If you have a Performance Bike shop in your area, try on the ones they sell. The nice thing about them is you can always return it if you don't like it. They have to have one of the easiest return policies ever!

I purchased some tights on sale, even though they had a chamois (I wear them over my bib shorts, so I didn't want double thickness).

It was easy to remove, and I didn't damage the lycra in the process. Now stitching another one back in, using the zig-zap pattern so that it can give during stretching/pulling, will be the tough part.

ha!! a very difficult job that I once tried years ago and failed. I think it's a job for someone who does a LOT of sewing -- so, maybe a pro

the difficulty is that lycra stretches, and it's hard to sewing something stretchy coz who knows exactly how and how far it stretches when worn? That, and sewing something non-stretchy to something stretchy is tricky.

If you have any decent sewing machine (or access to one), it would have the zig-zag (and many other) types of sewing patterns, so it's not difficult at all (assuming you're not a klutz).

Try Kucharik

I sent them my Etxe Ondo bibs for chamois replacement. Very good work. I will be sending them more bibs for chamois replacement. They also do repairs and alterations.

Check the link for pricing.
