Vinegar versus Oxalic for interior tubes
So, not a fan of going the Oxalic acid route.
My new to me Bianchi has a bit of interior rust (I am pretty sure nothing bad) and wondering if I fill the tubes with rustidue with vinegar will it flush it out? Then I can swab some oil using a rag to preserve (per advice given).
Any other environmentally friendly suggestions?

I used white vinegar from the grocery store to clean rust out of two motorcycle gas tanks. It works well but it takes a while. One tank took almost two weeks to get all the rust out. You have to flush it with water immediately then flush it again with water and baking soda to completely neutralize the acid. I put the tank in the sun and used a hair drier for about 30 minutes to dry it as well as possible before adding adding about a cup of wd 40 and sloshing it around to prevent it from rusting again before I was ready to fill it with gas and use it. If left wet after removing the vinegar it will start rusting in minutes. It worked quite well.

If I had rust inside the tubes, I think I would try high pressure water, followed by with high pressure air, followed with WD40, followed with frame saver or boeshield T-9, or something similar.
Run the water until it's clear. Air until it's dry, rotate frame until you think everything is out

What don't you like about oxalic acid? It degrades into carbon dioxide and water. Oxalic acid is a naturally occurring component of honey. There are no concerns of environmental contamination during manufacture or disposal. If you have it in powder form you can mix it to whatever strength you like.

I think the most eco and safe rust remover would be vinegar. After for protection a non nasty protective coating can be ballistol. Look it up. It is popular in the US with blackpowder shooters because you can dilute the oil with water (it mixes, 10% oil to 90% water) pour it into a barrel, it cleans the powder residue, then when you empty it, the water evaporates and leaves a protective layer of oil. You can do the same with your frame tubes. In the UK, cost £15 for 500ml. Many uses, and very safe on skin, some people even drink it. I use it for just about everything…..ciao.

Great suggestions all. Since the tubes are pretty small, I think I am going to actually try to plug in some evaporust and let it sit in the tubes for 12 hours or so.
Then dip the bottom bracket in a bath of it.

50:50 Denatured alcohol and Linseed Oil are a great combination to preserve the interior of a bicycle frame.

Evapo-Rust and technique for soaking tubes
Hey everyone,
a couple questions about removing rust from inside the frame (which BTW is always seemingly neglected by those viral frame restorer guys on YouTube).
A) What are your thoughts on Evapo-Rust?
B). What techniques do you use to ensure the entire tube get soaked. I was able to get the chain stays slacked (see photo). But I am trying to figure out how to seal the other tubes.

The seat tube is the trickier piece.
