I feel like Fuji, Pentax, Olympus, Sony, etc are doing some cool stuff while Canikon just plods along in the same general direction as always. Must be good to be the 800lb gorillas.

So many people say this. I don't know how they're still in business.

Most nights I camped, but I found some places not yet open for the season or out of business. When that happened, I stayed inside. Started and ended at a campground literally right next to the Sevilla airport. Got there late at night. When The next morning a plane flew over my tent and landed on a nearby runway. I could practically see the passengers through the windows. The campground is no longer there.

I've decided Pennsylvania people are more discerning. I walked right up to the counter in an empty Starbucks yesterday. Or maybe Pennsylvania people don't drink coffee.

So of the 2 GP4K IIs I got a few months ago, both now have sidewall slashes in under 500 miles of use per tire. N=2 so clearly these things are trash and I should probably start a thread asking for bulletproof tire recs. Last night was my first full on blowout/instaflat, gunshot sound and then riding on the rim. Good thing I wasn't going too fast at the time.

One neighborhood over, there's a roaster that enjoys a pretty good reputation, but it's such an under-the-radar spot that I hadn't tried their beans in my first 4.5 years back in MN. I finally went in about a month ago. First, the bastard unnecessarily corrected me when I asked what they recommend for espresso, ("there's no such thing as espresso beans, you can use whatever type and roast pleases you..." No ****, Sherlock - that's why I asked for your recommendation as opposed to asking for espresso beans), and then came the beans. Ugh.
They had two recommendations for espresso; I started with the darker. Holy carbonization, Batman. Dark as a moonless night, oily, and the first time that I'd ever had 16oz of beans not fit in my grinder's hopper (they were very dry/light, so a large volume to round out a pound). And the burnt - oh my, the burnt. I actually went back later for the lighter of the two roasts, but that one was still significantly darker than any of the beans in my regular rotation.
I guess the fancy-pants citizens of the area like their coffee burnt and their merchants arrogant.
Don't be silly - they were all in the drive-through line.

I honestly don't know if the issue is QC and sometimes a batch has crappy sidewalls, or if they are just vulnerable to sidewall injury from hitting rocks/road debris etc.
I say you should start a thread with a poll.

These are generally good tires but your experience is not uncommon. I have been quite lucky. One sidewall gash in approx 8 years.

They're mostly the only tires that I use on uprights. Even my tandem is shod with them.
