Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No hot spots. I think they were pretty comfortable aside from the free float. I have stiff carbon shoes, so I think that helps.

I used Speedplay pedals for over a decade, and never had a hot spot issue. Stiff CF soles, and the standard 3bolt cleat attachment make hot spots a non-issue. Pedals don’t cause the problem,

Float is a killer for my knees so that rules out a lot of pedals (and means the various float schemes mean nothing to me). From an anatomical/ergo standpoint, traditional toeclips, straps and slotted cleats are as good as it gets for me. 3 of my 5 vikes have them. One has LOOK copy (Forte) pedals with the black cleats. And on my gravel bike, I compromise with MTB SPDs with the tension cranked up to the toughest setting I can get into. (I ride that bike the least, so it works.)

Problem - I sometimes get out to the driveway and realize I have the wrong shoes on and have to go back and swap shoes or bikes.

Edit: I could go with Speedplay Zeros but that seems like an awfully expensive way to get to the same place. (And the toestrap bikes are not going to change because they are fix gear and on fast descents, toestraps are the most secure setup there is.)

Ben

These came in today and they're really nice. 238g on my scale, lighter than Ultegra. Good tension adjustment. All white lettering, no red. I'll probably get another set, for thirty bucks you can't beat it.
