That changes everything...I mean if i was touring for days at a time or riding in the middle of nowhere and seen a cyclist I would most likely acknowledge them in some way but here in the suburbs and the city and even rural areas close to the city I don't bother to wave or acknowledge anybody. A person who constantly seeks and invites attention just looks odd and weird and being too friendly makes a person look like some insecure weirdo.

So far we don't have an issue with e-bike rider's here. They actually tend to be some of the slowest people on the trail or road. Even the younger ones on e-bikes. None ride in a manner that is any different than any other cyclist. Though noobs will be noobs no matter what they are riding.

I'm amazed at all the stories of discourteous e-bike riders and discourteous bike riders that get posted.

So all drivers who own a certain type of a vehicle have an obligation to wave at all other drivers who happen to own the same vehicle ?.

Motorcyclists do the same weird thing, wave at each other because they are both on motorcycles. Hey, I have pants on, should I wave at everyone I walk past who also has pants? Or who has some teeth left?

It is hilarious that e-bikers think they are "cyclists", when in reality they are motor-vehicle operators, no different than those driving automobiles or operating motorcycles, except for some reason they do not need a vehicle title, safety inspection, insurance or registration. A Tesla automobile, an E-car, needs all that legal stuff to be on the road, but if it has two wheels it does not ??? There are a thousand slobs running around my city on e-bikes, bicycles with little two-stroke engines, and even gas-powered mini-bikes every-day, all day. If they are having fun or getting somewhere they need to be great, but if they wave to me when I am on a bicycle because they think they have something in common with me, they can go to ache-eee-double-toothpicks.
And people say you're bitter?

I thought you said only the obsessive wavers go off the deep end on this subject, but here you go.

There are actually solid reasons to avoid eating too far up the food chain. For example, it's safer to eat sardines than tuna, because sardines eat plankton, but tuna eat sardines.

I'm a waver. I'm also the guy who will start up a conversation if we're stopped at a stoplight together. It turns out, most bike people are pretty nice. Even the ones on $5k+ bikes wearing matching kits.

There was one guy, though. I waved at him twice as he came towards me on the river bike path. Once when we were a ways apart, and then again when we were almost next to each other. He didn't even give me a nod. After he went past, I turned around, chased him down, knocked him off his bike, and threw it into the river. I hope that dude learned his lesson. What an a-hole.

None of what I said in the above paragraph is true. Most of the time people wave back at me, or give me a nod. If not, no worries. It's nothing more than a greeting between folks.

I don’t. The first time I had it was in Puerto Rico. I was probably 7 or 8 years old. Loved it even back then.

That old guy down the street that uses a walker around the yard gets a wave when he is on his e-bike cruising the neighborhood. That 16 year old tearing up my single track through the pine trees on an e-bike that looks like a Motorcycle and has their pedals folded back does not!

Of course there is always the difference between PEDALING and PEDDLING. Rubber nipples anyone?
