Whilst I'm baffled by the idea that the cheapest thing in the shop was a badly set up $3k carbon Willier, that's not really the point in this stack of crazy.

I do want to address this pretty important point:

Something deflecting off the spokes might damage the spokes but would still let you limp home. If something got caught in the spokes it'd stop the front wheel dead. If you weren't lucky enough to break traction and have a front wheel skid with a side of road rash, you're getting thrown over the bars at whatever speed you were travelling at, almost certainly face first into the ground.

At least if you caught the rear wheel you'd get a more controllable accident.
That's also not discussion how that weight affects the handling. I've done it a few times over short distances and it's horrific. The slightest movement and everything is rocking.


Unless you've got incredible dental insurance, just get a pannier rack. You'll have a much better riding experience too.

You have got to wonder if it is them or maybe you, you do drive people to negativity frequently and that is not a good thing. Just enjoy cycling and talk about cycling not being an internet tough bro and challenging people to silly contests or figuring out ways to damage your bike and take from those who need it.

Relax a little and either take time to enjoy bikes or maybe find like a four chan type of deal where this sort of stuff is par for the course.

both of those things are true.. and I also had to pay my landlord 4 days late because I didn’t have enough money for both rent and the bicycle.

Now that I'm in Flagstaff I only drive to the store once or twice a month. Mainly to stock up on coconut water - I tried carrying a case of 520ml cans home a couple weeks ago and that was brutal!

For getting a couple dinners' worth of food I'll just walk but sometimes I'll pop in to a store if I'm already out and about on the bike.

Absolutely. Food banks are for people in actual food poverty. Not having money for food because you bought a brand new bike is not actual food poverty. You can always sell the bike.

Food banks are meant to be an absolute last resort, and at least here are woefull oversubscribed.

Would you be OK with someone using a food bank because they spent all of their money on beer? Because you're logically in the same position.

Yes. Would be obvious to most. Why not move in with Mom and Dad? They could help you monitor your diet and personal hygiene, you could ride to "work" with Dad. Ethically that would put some of your subsidy back on those responsible.

Shame on anyone gatekeeping my access to the food bank, it has improved my nutrition, you should be ashamed of yourselves. It’s rather disgusting.

also people who spend all their money on drugs are homeless and need the food bank desperately. Some of these commenters seem very isolated from the realities of poverty. The homeless alcoholics can’t get to this food bank; the quality of the food and the location are suspect and call into question the intended users of the food bank.

The college students (it’s not a free community college, like previously suggested) that are the intended recipients of the food bank are not destitute. I’m financially worse off than the average one, but the whole point of the “rich person food bank” was to highlight the absurdity of the situation and the evilness of society. The reality of the situation is the powers that be decided that homeless alcoholics are rats and don’t deserve access to high quality food at their food banks. They get textured soy protein Tuna Fisha and Tunatural.

yeah you should be embarrassed telling me that I shouldn’t use a food bank. If you knew my financial situation, you would be ashamed. Have had close to zero savings my entire adult life.
