Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the deal?

I have ridden bikes for many years, have done triathlons for two decades, have spent loads of time in bike shorts and tri suits. Never before have I had so much chafing in the groin area. And the chafing has been accompanied by a stubborn case of jock itch. It's getting frustrating. I have used several kinds of anti-chafing creams, have been prescribed medicine for the jock itch. My shorts are always clean, as is my body (except when I am riding, of course). I suppose I just need to wait until the warm summer days are over.

Any change in body shape/ composition? That could result in more rubbing in the same kit and saddle. This is fairly late in the season; did it just start recently or all this year? And the jock itch suggests that your shorts and body are not as clean as you think.

I have several pairs of shorts. The one pair is brand new--probably too tight. Only one pair is somewhat old.
