In your opinion, what is the best road bike that giant makes?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Depends what you want.

If you want light - Defy Advanced SL ISP.

If you want totally badass all around and what Rabobank rides - TCR Advanced SL ISP.

Your question is kind of broad, so that's all I've got to say as an employee that retails Giant.

The rabobank frame is powerfully ugly. I'd get the same frame in white. In fact I may just do that very thing.

Do you want a comfort oriented frame or a racing oriented frame? Personally I just ordered a 2012 Defy Advanced (not a fan of ISP or I would have gotten the SL) but I'm 38 now and had back surgery on my L5-S1 disc in Sept 2010 so I need the more upright position or my back kills me on long rides. If I were younger the TCR Advanced SL is supposed to be a great bike.

Now that said AEO's question is pertinent because Giant (as the largest bike manufacturer in the world) makes bikes for several other brands... notably Trek...you will note only the 6 series Madones claim to be made in the US now...the others are all made by Giant.

Pretty sure my Colnago was made in their factory. I'm definitely happy with it.

Is it "powerful" I hear that Giant comes with a special battery/power feature.

Just my LBS and the fact that it is common knowledge...it has been posted here many times going back several years when they started doing it. Any carbon Trek that doesn't say OCLV on it was made in Taiwan...the Aluminum bikes even before that.

What I've read, but don't have the source for either, is that the Trek aluminum bikes may be made in China, perhaps even in the Giant factory, but that the Trek carbon bikes, with the exception of the USA manufactured top end OCLV Madones, were made in Trek owned factories in Taiwan. Trek and other manufacturers seem to keep this information as private as possible. Except for the top end OCLV Madones made in Wisconsin, I've never seen an official statement from Trek on where their bikes are manufactured.

Trek proudly labels any bikes made in the USA as such. My wife's Madone 6.5 says "Handbuilt in the USA" on the chainstays.

Be that as it may, I'm liking both the 2012 Advance and Defy.

Defy Composite, Advanced or Advanced SL depending on your budget.

The majority of our traffic today was people coming in to just lift the Defy Advanced SL ISP frameset that we now have on the floor. Our door ticker topped off at 326 when we closed early today at 3pm.

The thing is scary light. I want one. And that says a lot, because I'm typically a titaniophile.

If you look at their website you will notice the 2012 Madone 3, 4, 5 and 6 all say OCLV now. Two years ago the 5 and the 6 were made in the USA. Last year only the 6 and above was. This year I don't know.

Right...I made a mistake with the OCLV comment...that was the way it was when they made the transition a few years back. Now the only frame they state is made in the US is the 6 series.

My 2003 Trek 2200 says made i USA on the Al frame with a nice flag decal. When I go to the store I look for products made in the US and I mostly can't even *find* any.
