After reading some of the posts last night I tilted the nose up just a bit and rode around the neighborhood. That kept me on the saddle but there was significant conflict between the nose of the saddle and a couple of my more precious body parts. I raised the stem as far as it would go to see if that would alleviate the problem. It was better, but I think that I would need one of those skyscraper Nitto stems that Rivendell sells to get me high enough. I really hate that look. I know, looks are nothing compared to comfort, but....
I rode 51 miles today and have never been more miserable. The old numbness problem which had disappeared with my cutout saddle reared its ugly head again. Work and family priorities will keep me off the bike for about ten days. That will give me time to heal and give it another try.

Nice rig once again!
Good point on the saddle hight, i agree, had to lower (relatively..!) mine too. But having said that, i ride my saddle crazy high, no probs with Brooks at all.

Here is a Brooks question for you'all.
I have a Brooks Professional on my touring bike and am in the process of getting another cyle. I like the Professional, once it was broke in it felt great! It is the only Brooks I've owned.
I am thinking of getting the B-17 for the new bike, primairly because it is almost half the price of the Professional. I've seen the professional described as a saddle for those who "like a longer sadlle nose". Having only had the Pro, and not a B-17 to compare it to, I am not sure if I prefer the Pro or not.
Any ideas on comparison of the fit bewteen the B-17 and the Pro would be greatly appreciated.

Wall Bike - they have a 6 month return policy - and are very helpful folks. If you don't like either one, you can return or exchange it.

Honey B67 on KHS F20 Westwood. The more Proofide you rub in, the darker the Honey coloured Brooks leather gets. (mine look more like antique brown now)

The B17 has a profile which is more flat on top and is favoured for this reason by tourists while the Pro's profile is curved, the seat area being narrower.
Both are good saddles but for my riding, having toured on both for many years, I prefer the B17. The B1 Special is really good value at the moment.

A really nice collection this thread has become, i love seeing other Leather saddles as well! A real pity Brooks & Lepper seem to be the very few brands still around.

The Brooks is there.....somewhere. I might post a better pic later.
sirmike, if you're still reading this thread, I'm interested to know what tires you use on your Raleigh 3-speeds.

I know he already scratched it the first time I mounted it on the bike, but he fancies the vintage toolbag(converted into a battery bag) way way more than the Brooks, which I supposed is a good thing. He also likes to sleep on it(bag), and I mean sleep, not lay down!
I might try to ride around with him on it, he absolutely loves that spot.

Thought I would update after about 200 miles on my new B-17. It's not an ironing board anymore! It keeps feeling better and better.
