Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In other news, the 2018 Expedition tows 9300lbs. That's a ton. And it has that fancy towing back up assist. Hard to give up my Tacoma though.

A ton of trailer. My trailer is 6000lbs at worst, poop and all. With 9300lbs, we could go up and down all mtn passes with no fear. No more white knuckle driving and thinking I'm going to kill my family and my dog.

Before my wife bought the 4Runner, we were loaned a 2000 Land Cruiser to see if we liked it. She almost bought it. It sold in 10 minutes on craigslist. I like the Land Cruisers.

And I own a lot of bikes - steel, aluminum, magnesium, and carbon.

If you are an avid cyclist, rec cyclist, or racer, it is far more fun to ride a stiff, comfortable, light bicycle. It responds quicker, it corners better, it accelerates faster, it does everything as good if not better than the others. It's the kind of stuff that puts a smile on your face and you realize why riding a bike is so fun. If you've never experienced it, you can't discount it. You don't know what it's like, and if you did, you would think it was fun.
You are safe here, but in any other forum/thread folks would be all over you about the stiff, comfy, light bike isn't really faster. They just don't get it. Lighter is funner.

I think we have the same taste in bikes. I've tried some of the new aero bikes, been through aluminum, entry and mid level carbon and have a steel one, but for me the best ride is my Photon Rs (I ended up with two through crash replacement). The lighter one is right at 15# and the repaired one I race and ride the most is just under 16. Stiff and responsive.. it might all be in my head, but it is quite persuasive.

Until I rode bikes like these I was as skeptical as anyone.

I believe a metric ton is 1000 kilos, or 2200 lbs.
