Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

when I work the 4 day red eye. Day 1 we will have like 160 knot head wind going jfk to phx. Which sucks but it’s day 1 what ever, all that matters is day 4. You would think day 4 phx to jfk we would have 160 knot tail wind, nope. Not once. In fact most times the wind is gone. WTF.

Thats great man. I thought about them a while back, being BWI based but it didn’t work out.

Of course the dealer employees who answer the phone can't tell you anything. First, they don't know, and if they did tell you and you messed something up and blamed them... well, they don't want that. I was thinking you could maybe ask one of the techs. You'd have to go there and probably walk into the shop. People used to do it at my job and I didn't mind answering a quick question or 2. Within reason, of course.

Should be a standard hydraulic set up on the front.

Open the bleeder and let it gravity bleed for a few seconds then use a normal sized flat blade screwdriver to either slide the full floating caliper or compress the piston. Whichever works. Course, this is with the bleeder open, so attaching a hose to route the fluid coming out into a container is advised. Close the bleeder, install the pads and rotor on that side, take the cap off the master, open the bleeder, let gravity bleed. Once a solid stream of fluid is observed, close the bleeder, cap the master, and go to the other side.

So many different ways to slap pads, but I never backed the fluid into the system, hence the open bleeder.

Looks like it’s gunna rain at the gravel race. We are getting a lot of rain the next couple of days and then calling for rain the day before and during the race. Which means, Mud.

I don’t think I will run my schwalbe grs one. So that leaves me the pirelli M.

These are only 35mm and look super narrow. Is it better to go super narrow for mud or should I try and find some 45mm before the race?

Zwift Stupid question of the day.

So I built my workout for tomorrow on zwift. 15 min zone 5 intervals X3

When I selected zone 5 it set the power at 267w.
Garmin calls for a power between 226-278 for this particular workout.

From my memory with zwift having it set to 267w, if I go below that at anytime it will tell me to peddle harder.

My question, outside I don’t think I would have an issue holding the 267, but I think zwift is harder, so should I drop it down? Unfortunatly it won’t let me built a power window. I was thinking about dropping it down to ftp, but ovbiosuly sim for above that.

Yeah you might want to have different targets for indoors vs outdoors, especially if it's different power meters, but even then, most perform a little better outside.

The workout feature in zwift kind of sucks. Many people run trainerroad and just have zwift operating to have something else to look at. When I do intervals in zwift, I do them in "free ride" mode - you know, just like you would outside. So I don't use any of the zwift workout features at all, I just warm up, then hit the lap button and starting hitting my HR or power targets like one would in real life.

Got in 3 hrs this morning surrounding the local hammer ride. I didn't want to stress my body too much so I capped my power at low/mid Z5 level and played leadout/delivery duty before sprint-y sections. There is one hill a few min long and my self imposed power cap w/kg is good enough to beat most up the hill. But I didn't attack the bottom or sprint at the top. Made it kind of fun that way - I watched some guys disappear at first, and reeled in all but two.

4 hrs z2 tomorrow, probably on the trainer

I won’t have erg mode on, it’s more of just having the gates up for the intervals, and if I do slack off it will yell at me visually.

Ill drop it down to 250 then.

4 hrs is a little bit difficult TBH. I'll do 3-3.5 of z2 regularly on the trainer but 4+ is a challenge. But, I do like the sense of accomplishement.

The last few seasons I make a point of doing one 6 hour trainer ride per year. Just bc it feels "epic"

Oh, and I am still an idiot, went back and checked the workout, zone 4 not 5.

I dropped it down to 250. Should prolly lower it even more, but this is my last ride before work, and as LAJ said, leg drainer. I’ll be lucky if I get a ride in the next 3 days.

62 mile club ride today. About 12 of us and another 12 went to do the Tour de Palm Springs. I've never done that one but I heard they had to change it from a loop to an out and back due to road damage from the rains.
We had a fun ride but I had 2 flats. Little piece of wire that I missed caused the second flat. Epic fail on my part. Nobody gave me any crap about it, though. Well, not too much crap.

You can adjust the "FTP Bias" during a workout. What that does is to temporarily change the workout parameters as if your FTP was lower. Or higher.

it’s amazing how many people have experiences like this! A lot of things in medicine are just very complicated and unclear. I have a pretty clear diagnosis - confirmed by both UCSF and Johns Hopkins, which is the center of research for this particular flavor of cardiomyopathy. I’ve had a couple MRIs, a few dozen echos, a few hundred EKGs, a half dozen exercise stress tests, an EP study, three ablations, two open heart procedures of various types, so it doesn’t seem likely there’s a silver bullet out there that no doc has yet thought of. But hopefully there’s some variation or nuance of the current treatments that would improve things. Some days are better than others, for sure.

Had the trainer set up ready to go and this morning it wouldn’t connect to my ipad so ended up riding in the rain.

Now that my training is back on track my restless legs are back at night. Was up all night, only thing that would make it stop is if I slept on the floor.

0.5 hr into my (potential) 4 hour hamster wheel session. Good sensations in the legs after hardish yesterday, good conversation in this group, good tunes on public station KSDS Jazx 88. I reserve the right to venture outside later if this turns into a drag, but right now the vibes are flowin'

about halfway through it now. a pretty good overview of both the basic principles and the real world implications and relevant studies. it’s the first time I’ve seen ARVC discussed in a mass market book, that’s for sure!

the first sentence is me. the good news is that I hope the last sentence is the rest of us!!!

There are also very small numbers of susceptible individuals who have gene-elusive ARVC in which endurance exercise is the “second-hit” that causes muscle disease. It all sounds scary, but there are crucial caveats. For one thing, these are highly selected groups of athletes (or family members of athletes) who presented with symptoms. They represent only a tiny fraction of elite athletes. The vast majority of endurance athletes do not develop severe ventricular arrhythmias.
