Two I-Willies in 2 minutes...

Recently on bikeforums the phrase "I-Willie" was coined to denote those impatient drivers who pass aggressively when they finally get the chance. https://www.bikeforums.net/advocacy-...ough-pass.html
Well, today at lunch I encountered two in two minutes...on foot!

While walking to lunch a line of geese crossed a cross-street holding up traffic. I was watching as I crossed with the light. As soon as the last goose barely cleared this big, off-road pick-up he gunned his motor and flew thru the intersection against the light just feet in front of me.

Then a couple minutes later I went to cross a driveway into a strip mall. I looked behind me...no cars. Across the street a line of cars was waiting for traffic coming towards me to clear. So it was clear So I crossed. All of a sudden there's a screech of tires to my left, as a woman in a small suv slammed on her brakes to not hit me. Apparently there was a small break in traffic and she gunned it to cross without seeing me.

It was 1145am, clear, sunny and while not wearing my yellow high vis bike jacket, I had a high vis orange "hunter's" cap.

On bike, or on foot...be careful out there!

Obviously the driver of the truck had an extremely important load of manure to drop off. The second driver, oh boy what you could fill in the blank with would get me banned for life. They both had the "Rudeness" knob turned all the way up. Glad your safe!

That's interesting... I was recently in C-Springs and while walking around I noticed how many people make their stop, or more often, pause, well into the crosswalk. One of them almost got me once, and seemed a bit miffed when I slapped the side of his truck.

Drivers like that are the main reason I avoid walking across intersections, crosswalks or anywhere with a traffic light. Too many drivers ignore those or get impatient and crowd into pedestrians, inching forward to intimidate rather than waiting a moment. Or drivers are too concerned with where they're planning to go rather than with the people immediately in their path who have right of way. Right on red laws made it even worse.

I rarely see cops cite pedestrians for jaywalking. I suspect the cops also realize it's a lost cause and often safer to cross well away from designated intersections, crosswalks and lights.
