True dat! With the cranks I run, no need for that many cogs in the back. As for the seatpost, I can't figure out why an all carbon bike, running low pressure beach cruiser sized tires needs a suspension post. My bad, Trek recommends not running a tire bigger that 28. Oh, I know the reason. We're not supposed to talk about it though. As for the seatpost being new/revolutionary, looks like a Y Foil to me. 8k for that thing. It ain't gonna look or ride any better than the project you're working on now.

The 2022 Madone SLR 6 with mechanical Ultegra is $7k. $8k, while crazy money, is not out of line for the new model with a more expensive drive train. I’m not in that market, but the price of the new bike is not out of line with prior models.

Looks like with the new IsoFlow diamond seattube/post thingy, Trek might have reached the point I feared would come with modern frame evolution. Frame construction keeps getting wider tubes starting to resemble 2x4s. If you look at those pictures of Mad Pederson riding the new Madone, look at where that diamond part of the seatstays is in relation to his quads. It might not happen to a tall dude perched a foot and a half above the TT, but there's a really good chance that a short stocky guy with big quads(like you and I) will have legs rubbing the frame there. I hope that crank has a high q factor. Maybe not, but it's already a problem on the front of the TT behind the headtube on some frames I've sat on.

I've always said that if they made 105 di2, I'd buy it, and I will (I'm 185lbs, so a few grams in the total system weight doesn't make a difference to me). Already have plans for a new gravel bike (swapping my GRX di2 to the new bike), and then a new road bike, which will be full aero, and 105 di2. Perfect timing.
For those saying there's no benefits to di2, I'll mention a few that make a big difference for me, no cables (I've broken several), shifting under load, shifting while braking. Those alone are enough to justify the cost for me, but different strokes for different folks, ride what works for you.

Anyone know if the Di2 signals work with different groupsets? For example, if I were to get the 105 Di2 shifters, would I be able to use a GRX Di2 FD? I'm more excited that the 105 Di2 can run 11-36t native. For my gravel rig I was thinking 105 Di2 shifters + GRX Di2 FD + GRX crankset + 105 Di2 RD + 12 speed 11-36t cassette. Would something like that be possible?

I rotate them to the point I can’t remember riding one twice in a row.
Some days I feel Italian, some days not.
Lately I’m liking US-built bikes:
Aluminum Cannondale
Steel Fiorini
Ti Litespeed
Carbon Kestrel
Steel Wraith Fabrications
4 Colnagos, 3 of which are climbers
1 Battaglin
1 Cinelli
2 Rossins
I try to ride a Japanese bike once in a while, either a PDG Series 5 or an Ironman.
Now, for a one and only, I’d like the new LeMond package. Even at $12K, nor a bad value.
More than just a bike, a relationship, and interesting.
I like interesting.

Curious on your setup. What's the specs on your components? I'm in no rush to go wireless, but it seems we are headed in that direction, so I might as well start thinking/planning on it.

I bought a Cervelo C3 half a decade ago with Ultegra Di2 for the price of Ultegra mech. I changed the bars and stem for comfort and put wheels I love on her. I still love the bike. I'm glad to have one I love, and to have been able to buy when it was only somewhat stupidly expensive.

Do you still have to buy D Fly separately, or is that just built into the system now?

For road use, I have 2mm spacing washers on the chain rings to correct the chain line. Campy 48/32 cranks work too. I suspect that most 11 speed cranks will work, but only shimano cassettes are practical with 50 to 53 chain rings.
I prefer a higher quality bottom bracket like the thread together with angular contact bearings from wheels manufacturing.

in 2010 or so, I started with $500 on eBay. I bought a bike for $135 and sold it for $300. Over the years, I’ve bought, built, stripped, given away, ruined scores of bikes. Parts built up, went down, bikes and frames came and went. The take-offs and networking and trades all add up.
Currently, I have 15 riders or wall art, and I’m down $8,000. Thus, the $8000/15. Great hobby.
