45 miles and 6300' of elevation...my first "California Alps" ride of the season, ahead of the snow that's supposed to happen tomorrow. The 2 major climbs on this route were 7.5 miles/2600' and 9 miles/3200' respectively. My goal to become better at long climbs has paid off, I PR'ed both climbs today and am now in the top 3% on Strava for both of them(there's about 8k riders on each segment.) The top of the leaderboard is littered with world tour pros, so I'm happy with my results.

The weather forecast for Markleeville(where this particular ride starts) is calling for temps of 54/25 tomorrow and 48/26 on Sunday...big change from the high 60s like it was today. At my house, it's supposed to be 46/30 tomorrow...my weather station is reading 71 as I type this, the seasons can't make up their minds.

Thanks, it's amazing what dropping 20-25lbs and becoming "roadie" lean will do for one's climbing speeds.

Did a short 20 miles and 1600 ft of climbing of fakery in the Hollywood Hills on Rouvy.

30 miles with 1,700’. Set a PR on a 3 mile 645’ climb and was the second fastest for age group. Also got a 4th 🏆 over all on a 1.31 mile segment.

Thanks, some of the climbs just west of this one are even more scenic IMO, but they're still closed for snow.

As far as the color, as soon as I saw it, I liked it. I was looking at this particular model last year, but it was purple...I just couldn't pull the trigger on a purple bike.

Took a little more hydration than I usually do in the weather conditions this time of year [50s & cloudy, 14mph headwinds] so instead of lugging it around, I put it to use.

Return of the crappy weather today...so I knocked out a quick 26 miles and 1500' in fake Italy.

Got in 64 today with 38 miles of 18 mph headwinds, but made for a quicker return, but man did it get hot and humid for the last 45 mins, the clouds went away and the sun started to bake me and the earth pretty good. I unfortunately did not realize that the road I opted to return back on was being torn up, it was not that way 3 weeks ago, so I did about 8 miles on the sidewalk versus the potential of being nailed by a side mirror. I also believe after today's ride, I have confirmed my thoughts to unload some bikes as I have found that the CheckPoint is just fulfilling my road and gravel needs all too well and I just don't need the others. So I am going see about finding new homes for my Domane and Emonda. Might build up a mountain bike with the proceeds.

...and I always wait for your pictures of pastries. I could kill for a cinnamon roll or a butterhorn on the mid point of a ride, but logistically hard to accomplish on most of my rides. I did reward myself with a BBQ burger and garlic fries after yesterday's ride...part of the reason I ride is to make room for my love of food lol.

Today was a leisurely ride around Tokyo, at an easy pace, and enjoying the sights and sounds. Normally I would have gone on a longer and faster ride, but the wind is howling today.



Today is a national holiday in Japan, “children’s day,” the last day of the Golden Week holiday season. The office buildings and schools were empty today, but Tokyo was crawling with tourists. I went from Aoyama, down through Azabu, out to Marunouchi, Ginza, Tsukiji, Otemachi, and then back home. Other than the wind, it was a great day, and people were out enjoying the holiday.

A couple more days of indoor riding because of work. Today was 16 miles and 1900' of virtual New Zealand.

We had one new member join who is an out-of-practice cyclist. He had been at home taking care of his wife, who recently died of ALS. (Lou Gehrig's) It's his first ride back in 3 years. He's got pretty big legs; he's gonna be a KILLER when he gets his stamina back.
We had one returning member who had her knee replaced exactly a year ago. She's put on some weight, but has the right attitude.
...and we had one member who stopped the Monday rides because they're too fast, even on her Domane+. She's a nice lady, often leads our Wednesday rights, which are more moderately-paced.
All this considered, we averaged 16 mph, which I'm happy with. I'm getting back in shape from a winter of mostly eBike commuting and hope to be able to hang with the 18 mph B group by the end of the season. (even if only in their drafts)
Last year when I joined this club, I was the slowest guy in the slowest group and one senior guy pulled me all summer. Now, he's free to join the B group and I'll pull the C group. (though I did let the lady on the Domane+ help pull up some of the hills into the wind )

Tonight, I'm supposed to have my daughter, but she's got strep and I think will want to stay with her mom. If so, I'll respect that and hopefully avoid getting that bug, and maybe also sneak out to join a slow group ride with the club. With luck, I'll have time to better align the rear wheel on my Priority Apollo 11 gravel bike. It's not trivial, since it has belt drive and IGH. Belt tension is one factor, then alignment, then brake alignment too. By comparison, the Domane is very simple and efficient. (if higher maintenance with the chain)

Not much climbing to speak of to your mountaineers or even Seattle-ites. 1000' over 25 miles is a lot, in this part of the country. Maybe about like our Floridian sees?
